My son is playing with a Liverpool FC 'Merica team. He loves soccer, but, unfortunately, I know little about the game. I am slowly learning thanks to his teaching.

Anyway, to the point of the post, how does the Premier League work? Is there a post season tourney?

20 teams
each club plays the other 19 twice
3 points for a win
1 point for a draw
0 for a loss

1st place at the end = champion
top 4 teams go to the Champions League, which is a tournament between the top teams from all of the european leagues
bottom 3 go down a division, and the top 3 from that division come up

Very fair. I agree. Seems a bit anticlimactic though. How often does it come down to the final game? Is the schedule arranged to match the better clubs late in the season?

Go Google man city 2012 season finale game. Typically the champion isn't in doubt the final week but there are still battles for CL, Europa League and relegation.

The relegation battle and the top-4 normally comes down to the final day.

It's supposedly random.

There are two English tournaments during the year: the Capital One Cup and the FA Cup.

There are also two pan-European tournaments: the Champion's League and the Europa League. The top-4 English clubs at the end of the year get into the CL (#4 goes into a playoff while the rest get into the group stage automatically).

Incredible result considering the performance. We looked like shite for large portions of the match.

2nd place!

Most goals scored in the league.

Top goalscorer, second highest goal scorer.

Top assister, second highest assister.

shite defense

LFCA U11 played Leander in a stiff breeze today. Leander had the wind in the first half and jumped out 3-0. LFCA recovered nicely with the wind in the second half and played to a draw 3-3. The equalizer came on a penalty kick after Leander's frustration showed through on LFCA's striker.

All in all, a good opening game against a solid opponent for LFCA U11.

Now we go home and watch the big boys on the DVR.

Can a similar argument be made in relation to college football? Stellar offense lends to poor defense.

Just finished watching the game. We deserved the win, but it sure wasn't pretty. Luis was lucky to get the penalty late in the game. Sturridge probably should have gotten a yellow for diving. Gerrard was calm under pressure as always.

Our good offense really doesn't have anything to do with our poor defense.

What Suarez and Sturridge do up front doesn't have any effect on how Agger and Skrtel defend. It doesn't have any effect on our defenders forgetting to mark a guy on free kicks.

Marking a guy seems fairly elementary. Hell, even my Texan self figured that out pretty quickly.

My boy seems enamored with this Gerrard fellow. So much so, he picked #8 for himself. Tell me about this guy.

Gerrard is God. Unfortunately, he's near the end of his career. He's still one of the better passers in the league. He's one of the classiest and most loyal players you will find. He's the team's backbone.

General highlights

Pretty good one of his passing/vision

Another one for his goals

ETA: Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Gerrard has typically been a box to box central midfielder for most of his career. This year, he's been asked to play a new, more defensive role. He's basically been our defensive mid for the second half of the season. It started out rocky, but has been working out better as of late.

ETA2: Gerrard is our PK taker. He is almost automatic from the spot. He also takes a lot of our long free kicks.

ETA3: You will never hear a bad word about him. Even Man U's (LFC's rival) famous manager said, "He's got that unbelievable engine, desire, and determination. Anyone would love to have Gerrard in their team." -- Sir Alex Ferguson.
