How do you handle it when your coworkers listen to terrible music.

Ok, so obviously the volume thing is an issue. But I usually just plug the headphones into my ipod and can't hear it. But honestly close the fricking door to your office if you are gonna play music from the speakers.
The real question I have is when they try and have a discussion about music and they have just horrible horrible taste. I can tell my friends who listen to bad music that it sucks and all that, but you can't really just launch into a tirade about how fricking shitty your coworkers taste in music is and how I would rather be deaf than listen to his bull shite all day.
Or can I?

You don't have to be rude to your friends or your coworkers. Just tell them that the music they listen to is not your thing. You have different taste. So and so artist/style is not your cup of tea. However you want to phrase it.
Personally, I would probably just ignore it.
Pretty simple.

Close your office door?

the windows in my office let a lot of heat in due to the sun, gets boiling in there if the doors are closed.
But the music volume isn't a big issue, like I said I usually just plug in the headphones and go.
But two of the people I work with have tried to explain to me about Pretty Lights twice already this week. And I have been nice and let them know before that I am not into electronic music. They wan't to convert me. I have started making up reasons to go to lunch by myself so I don't have to listen to a 45 minute electronic music talk.

Dude, but pretty lights lasers and setup are so sick.
I know I have seen him.
Ya but he didn't get this set up until last year.

I can't wear headphones at work, and now I can only play music through my phone. Boss didn't like me using the computer for Spotify.
Anyway I spend most of the day on Grateful Dead Radio on Pandora. I've had a couple times where a band is playing and people don't seem to like it, I just change to the next track.
The last 3 times that has happened it was Phish.

Sucks your office has a bad taste in music. I would seriously quit. If I can't rage the 11.2.96 Antelope on full blast in my cubicle then I refuse to work there- it's that simple.

I don't really care what we listen to around here. They don't care for Jack White either.
Grateful Dead seems ok, Paul Simon radio works for them too.
They play some local radio station that plays a bunch of sappy music. Seal was on yesterday.

I worked somewhere that would play a radio station. I heard Taylor Swift's romeo and juliet song at least 4 times a day
I started humming it randomly away from the office and it sort of grew on me I am ashamed to admit. Like that friend you don't really want to hang around with but he is in the group.

I'm not sure what is more annoying. . . People who tell other people that their taste is music sucks (The OP) or people who try to force you to like the music that they like (The OP's coworkers).
Personally, I'd politely ask your coworkers to shut their doors or put in headphones if they want to play their music. It really isn't acceptable in a professional environment to play music loud enough for other to hear, unless everyone is ok with it.

I checked with my co-workers before I put pandora on. Theres only 2 people who are near me, the receptionist and business office manager. The BOM has her own office, and I sit in a room off of that with the receptionist.
I take requests if they have any.
