Also, you will probably be tempted to use your lob wedge/sand wedge around the green every hole, but you will be better off hitting a club with less loft(granted you are not behind a sand trap). If you have a lot of green to work with, then don't be afraid to chip with a 5 iron.

My grandfather who still shoots low 80s at age 85 tells me all the time:

"Son, God invented golf to make man humble."

Don't ever get too discouraged. Take it one shot at a time and have fun when you hit a good shot and try to learn from the bad ones. Seek advice and try to put it to use until you find your groove

With 2-3 extra tee shots, pulling it out of the woods, putting it on grass instead of dirt, etc. if you truly played down you'd shoot in triple digits.

I've played sports all my life. Maybe that's why?

A Marshall stopped in his cart and watched me drive when I was a teenager. After I hit he asked how long I've been playing. I said "about a month". It was like my 4th time playing.

He was amazed and said I had a swing of somebody who has played for a long time.

I guess I just have natural talent. I wish I played more.

I've been told that playing baseball hurts a swing

On my way out right now. The course is actually connected to where I work

Only work on one thing at a time to cut down on all the swing thoughts. Don't follow all the tips in golf magazines, sometimes instructors will give conflicting opinions.

The ball starts where the face is pointed at impact

some lying mother truckers here

I've only been to the driving range and putting green, never actually played a round of golf.

If I were to play tomorrow, I can almost guarantee I'd shoot a 120-130

Being a good athlete will make you better initially than the average new golfer and help you improve faster to a point. However, baseball swing tendencies often creep in and hurt a golf swing once you get to a certain level.

Good tip here. I only use one swing thought at a time. Trying any more usually results in a terrible swing.

Real golf tip: spend lots of time on the practice green before a round focusing on getting a good feel for the speed of the green. Get the speed right and you will 3 and 4 putt a lot less. Also, play a little more break in a putt than what you think. If you miss on the high side, it is breaking toward the hole, but if you miss on the low side, it is moving away from the hole.

The shorter the shaft on a club and higher the loft of the club face, the easier it is to hit.

I dunno, I hate my 3 wood and avoid it

I used to hit it well, but my irons are much better these days and my driver is reliable enough that I always use it off the tee.

I have a tendency to hit low hooks with my 3 wood for some reason.
