Have no idea where to ask this question, but does anyone have any information I should see about selling a loose stone?

I have a written appraisal already

I got a couple of offers on it but only from the appraiser and a family friend

The appraiser said I could likely get more from a private sale, but again I have no idea how to go about that

Clarification: more than his wholesale appraisal, which is what the family friend offered

Retail is obviously out of the question but I think somewhere in the middle should be doable. Right?

Was the stone graded by GIA, or one of the other diamond graders?

Selling lose diamonds is tough, ebay and craigslist are actually good places to sell. A GIA certificate is the bar. Without that you will be selling at a discount. .33 ct diamond no big deal, 2 ct diamond can be a very big deal...

Try to get your hands on a Rapaport pricing sheet. It is the industry standard for pricing loose diamonds. Typically diamonds are priced by jewelers within 10-20% of the Rap price depending on the quality of the diamond. Having the diamond certified through GIA or another international gemological institution is important to validate the specs of your diamond.

The appraiser used the Rap sheet and specified such on his appraisal

Without getting it certified you will have a very hard time getting the amount you want
