Seafoaming my Johnson - advice?

My Johnson is damn near 20 years old now, it mostly runs like a top but it's little rough in the beginning at idle, and lately when I try to get it up on plane it sometimes bogs down slightly for a few seconds before it gets up and going.
I want to try seafoaming it first. Do I just get a can and follow instructions on it, or is there some better way to apply the seafoam to my Johnson?

When was the last time a mechanic looked at it? My dad had a Johnson years ago that started that, but it would "run fine" after that. Until dropped a cylinder....
You may not have that problem, but I'd have it checked out. Does it kind of bog down and surge?

No surge. Actually I have to let off the throttle, back down to idle, do it again, then all is normal.
Last time we had this type if problem was probably 10 years ago, it was the piece the throttle cable attached to cracked off. JB weld held up for the last 10+ years. Didn't seem to be messed up this time. This has only happened the last 2 times I took it out.
The shitty idling has been pretty much since we put the motor on this current boat, 3 years ago

If it keeps it up, I highly recommend getting it looked at. Things can go from bad to FUBAR really quick there.

Johnsons don't normally have those problems until their 4th or 5th decade. Is there a possibility the flow to the Johnson is restricted due to sugar or thick grease deposits in the lines? Maybe the pump is producing too much pressure damaging the lines? I know some guys will add nitrous to the fuel but that shite is dangerous and can blow up an engine with compression problems. You could have an extra bulb installed and manually pump the fuel to get things started just make sure to back off the pressure when you are done running the Johnson.
Since you noted the change when you put your Johnson in a new vessel have you made sure the vessel did not have some gradual changes? If a vessel's transom gets wider or the vessel absorbs water and gets heavier many times those Johnson's will just not perform well. Heck some vessels will not accept certain Johnsons. Maybe you need to try putting that Johnson in a new sleeker lighter vessel to see how it works there.
