Tested battery and its fine. Solenoid just clicks. Put a voltage meter on it and it seems to be working properly. Any clue what may be the issue?

That's the only other thing it could be. Just kinda surprised it quit like that. Usually it will do that a few times before it completely goes out. At least that's what I thought

I replaced my seat last year on my 2000 last year. Cost me about $100. It made a world of difference. The bike looks brand new now with 12,000 miles on it.

Similar problem on my 07 Recon ES. After trying a few times, it doesn't even click. I just put a new battery in too. It used to start on full choke and I'd just ride it to get it going, but I've had to pull start it the last few times. Must be the starter.

Does the bike have a winch?

Serious and relevant question.

Usually if the solenoid is just clicking it's either a bad connection to the solenoid or the solenoid itself is bad. About a $20 fix at most.

Well I've ordered a started. Will try that and then maybe the solenoid. Like I said the solenoid seems to be closing as it should.

its a flat spot on the armature

if you have a drill press pull the motor apart chuck that thing in the drill press and turn the drill press on wrap a piece of fine sand paper around the armature give it a very light sanding blow it out with air compressor and re assemble it and see what happens.

First thing I would do is check the bat ground connection for corrosion etc.

See if it cranks hooking jumper cables straight to the terminals on the starter.

Just went outside and it started right up. Rode it around and turned it off. Went to start it again and it's just clicking now. New started has been ordered. Never changed one on a bike like that so off to google to get educated
