Going see this movie tonight. I haven't seen the two prequels, but I'm thinking since it's been 18 years since the first was made, I can maybe get by without cramming them in today.. and watch them later (out of order).

The two prequels have 95% and 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Before Midnight already has 97% and it's only been out in select theaters for a short while.

Anyone who has seen the prequels think I can get by without seeing them first and just watching them after?

i haven't seen them, but i'd imagine you will lose the effect by not seeing the first 2 movies

I saw them both in theaters when they came out. I love these movies. I'd definitely recommend seeing the first two before the third. Is it essential, probably not, but you can really get into the 'feel' of the characters and the style of the movies. They're intimate and 'talky,' and maybe not what you're used to seeing nowadays. Can't wait to see the third.

Good to know. Maybe I'll make a weekend of watching both and then go see the new one tomorrow night.

You definitely need to see the them in order to get the full effect. You see them in different stages of their life and how that affects their views on the world. I love the first two and really hate that this movie is coming out the same week as two other movies I want to see. I don't expect this one to last in theaters for very long.

That's what I'm most afraid of. It won't be in the theater long.

I'll try to watch the other two as soon as possible.

The movies are great. I love the intimate feel of just watching the two talk and seeing them interact. You definitely need to watch the first two or you are going to be missing alot of the relationship dynamics.

Been looking forward to this for a while. Offshore but will rush to see it if it is still in theatres in 2 weeks.

Saw this tonight. I might have missed the thread on the search, but I'm really surprised there are not more posts about this one.

I watched the first two again prior to seeing this and think it is pretty remarkable what Linklater, Delpy, and Hawke have done with this trilogy. I thought the first two films were incredible and this was the best of the three. Even though it was released early summer, I think this will get some nominations and maybe even a screenplay win (I think Before Sunset might have gotten one or two nominations, although I cant recall). I can't imagine I will see a better film this year.

1st one.... Kind of a "two people meet" and just fit together perfectly...but live so far away. Distance is the only thing that keeps them being together. Also reminds you of a time before twitter, facebook, cellphones (at least in major use) and how two people can meet and literally get lost out of your life forever. Kind of sad, but beautiful in a way.

2nd one, brutal honesty. The beauty is gone from the 1st film. Now its real life and real issues going on. They've grown up, grown apart...but still have unfinished business. Answers still need to be given and other questions still linger. It reminds you of how we all have that "magical moment" but we all go back to regular life. And it doesnt quite match up...and yet we spend our lives wondering why the frick didnt I do this or do that or was it never meant for me. The last scene leaves you with a feeling you truly want...a "frick it" feeling.

3rd one...

Havent seen. Looking forward to it.

I saw Before Sunrise a few years ago...very dialogue-heavy movie. Basically just two people talking the whole time. It's good, and it's definitely different from most of the movies that have come out in the past 20 years. I haven't seen the two sequels though.

Before Sunrise comes on again the rest of the week...

However its at odd times...Mostly in the morning or late at night.

Check 535/536 Encore East/West if you have Direct TV.

Oh shite I didn't even know they were making this.

I would really recommend you see the first two before seeing the 3rd as well.

I loved the first two but will also agree with everyone else that they are extremely talky and not everyone has the patience to sit through them.

As was mentioned, no way you can go without seeing the first two. They were both on NF for the longest time, but they are gone now.

I loved Sunrise/Sunset...cannot wait to see Midnight.

but I'm really surprised there are not more posts about this one.

It played in BR for a week. Everyone else in the theater when I saw it was an old lady or their husband.
