Boston did it before Miami did.

Dan Gilbert somehow works a deal to pair those two with Irving to get back at LeBron

Why would the Cavs want CP3 and Irving together?

It's Dan Gilbert. Anything is possible in that Bizarro world in his head.

I was just joking with that

No, Miami would have done the same as Boston if they waited 5 more years.

Miami got guys before their prime, Boston got them a few years after.

does wade or bosh look like they are in their prime?!?!? We are celebrating these guys this morning because they finally had a big game.... Like they did back in their prime.

I think something we've learned from the heat experience is, you need to team up on your 2nd contract, not the 3rd. On the 3rd, you've been in the league 8 years and could be past your prime with a huge contract. In your 2nd contract, you are 4-5 years in and starting your prime

They would be in the same situation as Miami.

Miami would either have to get rid of 1 of the Big 3 because of the Tax (which will be either Bosh or Wade because they aren't letting James go anywhere.)

Houston wouldn't be able to keep Howard, CP3, and Harden together for more than 2 years, maybe 3 max.

Miami already needs to add another piece to next year's team IMO. Its only going to get tougher. they need to add another post player desperately that can be both extremely physical and run the floor with anyone.

From TigerinATL:

quote:

Chris Paul and Dwight Howard have been in consistent contact recently about the possibility of becoming teammates next season, according to league sources.

..."They would love to play together if somebody can make it happen," one of the sources said.

The Atlanta Hawks could make it happen. Atlanta, which is Howard's hometown, has the cap room to sign both players to maximum-salaried contracts.

Howard is not particularly fond of the idea of returning to Atlanta, but he would do so to team up with Paul, the sources said.

...The preference for both players would be to play together for the Clippers, according to the sources. Because the Clippers don't have enough cap room to sign Howard as a free agent, it would take a sign-and-trade deal with the Lakers to make it happen.

...But while trading Howard to a team in their own building seems unthinkable, the Lakers are not likely to get a better trade package elsewhere than say, Blake Griffin and Eric Bledsoe.

And risk CP3 leaving? They'd be dumb to turn that down.

Well if they keep Paul, no way they will give the money to Bledsoe he will get next year in free agency. So it comes down to holding onto Griffin and hoping he develops or taking a chance on Howard

Lebron and Bosh are still in their prime. Wade isn't, but you could still argue he was when the other two got there.

IIRC Boston got Garnett and Allen through trades, not FA, and the whole time you pretty much knew it was 3 aging guys that just wanted one title. One of those guys is already out of there, and is playing for who else, but the Heat.
