What's the OB recommend? Fuel Line Repair Topic

2003 Chevrolet Duramax. Got an aftermarket aux fuel tank and a fuel selector valve. Hoses coming into valve and going out of valve are good. Downstream of output side of valve (heading to engine) metal fuel line has rubbed on frame and developed a pin hole, pouring diesel on ground.
From FSV to metal line now, there's about 10" of 3/8 rubber line. If I ran rubber line all the way to where the tubing has hole (cut the tubing)..I'd be removing about 10-12 in of metal line and replacing with rubber line. Or should I just cut the tubing and make a 2 in "patch" over where the pin hole itself is....in other words I'd have hose coming out of the FSV to metal line, a 2 in patch of hose with clamps..then metal line again.
I personally don't like the second option because of additional connections/clamps (more places to fail)...but I don't know much about suction/hose collapse and if that is even an issue over a 2 ft run of hose.
Ideas/Suggestions/comments?
Thanx.
