you honestly have to be a mental midget to take offense to anything someone else says.

Warren Perrin, president of the Council for Development of French in Louisiana, said the term is “highly offensive.”

“I routinely state that the use of that term is highly offensive to descendants of Acadians, who are commonly referred to as Cajuns,” Perrin said.

Referring to the term coonass.

I am one of these and the term coonass does nothing to offend me even a little bit

Which is why I thought this dude's quote was fricking hysterical. My SO is from da berry. Not one of any of her dozens of cajun relatives would find that offensive.

In fairness of full disclosure, that quote stemmed from the 'controversy' when Saban said it after he got to Bama. Context is probably important.

ETA: His quote should probably be, this is highly offensive when that POS Nick Saban says it.

I remember that. anyone who claimed they were offended by it i'm almost certain it was only because of the source not the term

I actually think it would be awesome and would have a good laugh about it if a team from Lafayette would be named Lafayette Coonasses. that would be legit

I wonder if it would rustle some jimmies if they had a team like the New Jersey Coonasses. You think people in south LA would get mad?

Yeah I have no problem with the name. Actually read somewhere that the preferred term is American Indians, not Native Americans, but don't know if that's true.
