So a couple buddies and me made a weight loss bet and I should be in line to win first place. Second place has to buy the winner any bottle of liquor they want up to $300. My favorite drink at the moment is bourbon (pretty much a rookie when it comes to the bourbon world). I currently have a bottle of the Van Winkkle 12 year old lot b; Prichards Double Barreled and Eagle Rare 10 year; I'd love to get my hands on a PVW 15/20/23 but we all know that's not going to happen. What should be my next choices be?

TIA

I saw some Oban 18 year old for like $225 at Martins if you wanted to dabble into some good scotch.

Jefferson Presidential Select 18 or 21? Four Roses Small Batch Limited Edition 2012? A bottle of Johnny Walker Blue Label looks pretty awesome on your bar.

When does the bet end? Churchill's carried the 15 & 23 last year I believe. They also gouged the shite out of it, but if you had a strong want, as my buddy Les would say, it can be had.

Check the bourbon thread below for plenty of great ideas. I'd get 2 or 3 very good bottles over 1.

I didn't think about doing that until half way through . Currently lost 31 lbs at day 78 of 90. Hoping to get to 40 though.

Yeah I didn't realize until too late it was a little obvious. Too late now I don't want to lose my whopping 289 posts over the past 6 years.

well who wouldn't!

for real though, I saw some great stuff at Martin's the other day. They had more good scotches than bourbons, but maybe move to something different.

This.

Really what I would do is lose the weight loss bet and end up on the paying end. But in the event I won I would request 10 handles of Charter.

Congrats!

Start drinking scotch. I think you will get better value for a $300 bottle of scotch over bourbon. IMO.

Glenfiddich 21yr FTW!!

Thanks. The only scotch I've ever purchased was a Glenmorangie Finealta. Wasn't a huge fan but couldn't hurt to give it another shot.

Hell, I didn't want to go with the obvious answer.

Honestly, I don't think there is a bourbon worth more than about $150. Is it just one bottle, or can you split up the $300?

I'd have to make sure but I would assume up to $300. I've been wanting to try a Japanese whiskey as well. Does anyone have any experience with them?

It's actually pretty damn good honestly. I had some of this a couple weeks ago.

It was really light and smokey. It was a very nice after dinner drink.

I had that Yamazaki a few weeks ago...first neat, which was on the lighter side of scotch (my preference since I'm a bourbon guy). Enjoyed it.

Then the bartender made me a blood and sand with it...good damn drink, but I wouldn't normally waste good whiskey in a cocktail like that.

I've never heard of a cocktail with scotch in it. Not sure if that sounds appealing or not.
