Something has gotta happen the ball is just dialed down to much. Hopefully this will happen. I bet Katz would be closer to 28 home runs or more if this idea(mlb ball) where in effect.

so, what I gathered from that was...let's get some new balls?

What's the summary for those of us that don't really want to watch the video?

GIVE US BALLS

Nice find. I already knew the current college seams help the break in the pitch, but I had no idea it brings more air resistance, therefore less distance

The ball that Rhymes caught at the wall against OK would have been a homer, not that it would have mattered in the end. A lot of those close calls will be home runs next year! Not that I'm complaining! Home runs are one of the most exciting parts of the game and the NCAA has almost taken it too far.

With the new balls in play, a baseball will travel farther by 20 feet. That's the difference between a 395 foot homerun to right center using a major league ball to a 375 foot fly out to the same spot using the NCAA ball. (Obviously depending on the distances to the fence, but you get my point)

I dont think there's any question IF the NCAA will move to the MLB baseball, the question really is will it be next season or 2015. Simply put, home runs are too neutered right now.

Didn't realize such a small 0.5mm difference resulted in 25% more drag on the ball. That's a rather large difference.

I'm sure pitchers are against this and hitters are quite the opposite

This also brings college baseball "closer" to MLB baseball which seems to be what they're trying to do anyways. See what pitchers can do with an MLB baseball instead of a college baseball. Give hitters a chance to show proper power as well (considering the bats now have the same ball exit speed as wood).

I have my doubts about the "science" from this video, this show makes frequent errors with regards to math and physics. I wouldn't be surprised to find that the 25% drag figure is exaggerated or that some fuzzy math has been used.

Also, the air resistance does have an effect on the distance of the ball, but not as much as the video would have you believe. Remember Coors Field and how every sports writer/scientist claimed it was because of the thinner air? (It was actually the humidity.)

I wouldn't be surprised to see infield errors go up slightly as well. Lower seems = less grip, less grip = less accuracy. It is a long throw from third to first and the first baseman can only stretch so far.

I feel that this is a CYA idea from the NCAA. With hitting like it is, and every fan bitching, they know that they made a mistake with the bats. This is a way of them fixing a problem they created without admitting fault.

I've heard that the soonest they will make changes would be the 2015 season, if they change at all.

Bring it on.
Real junk ballers will throw good breaking balls.
Real power hitters will be rewarded when they crush one.
