Recommendation for Fee Based Financial Planner in Baton Rouge

My wife and I want to give my nephew and his wife a few sessions with a fee-based financial planner for a wedding gift. I am hoping some of you MT gurus can answer a few questions. First, how much should I expect to spend and how many sessions would constitute a decent gift? The idea is really just to get my nephew thinking about his finances; something he does unbelievably poor. Second, does anyone have any recommendations of a person or group I could give a call to set this up? This would be in Baton Rouge and surrounding areas.

As Always Thank You for The Help

I wouldn't spend much because I doubt he'd ever attend

As far as compensation goes, it varies across the board.

Here is a link to the CFP's in your area that require $0-$99,999 account minimum, and are fee only. I haven't ever seen anyone meet to just give an education lesson, but maybe the will charge by the hour and you can get them 2-3 hours.

LINK

Call them and just tell them what your trying to do they should be able to help you out, if nothing else they could put you in the right direction.

Before spending $95-300/hour on a fee only financial advisor, I'd send them to an FPU Class. (I know, it's Dave Ramsey, blah blah blah) but it's a great place for a young couple to start. They'll get on the same financial page ( so important for couples early on) and they'll get a good core/basic financial education that can easily be built on as they get older. It will serve them well when they become serious about investing.

Just my 2 cents.

I agree. I charge $100 an hour and I think I'm on the cheap side.

You are, when I meet with my guy, I try to coordinate a meeting with my accountant at the same time. In 2012, i spent about $1200 between the 2 advisors, but they saved me about $11,000 in taxes. There's no point in meeting with a Fee only advisor until you have substantial assets, imo.

Here's my advice for free:

SPEND LESS THAN YOU EARN!

Foolproof.
