The Tigers were solid in 03 and a little better in 04. We all know :youknowwho: was not a great coach, but these two years succeeded with a talented group of hitters and position players and a pitching staff that was a little more than average.

Wally was the team leader. I have always wondered if LSU would have won it all in 03 with his help. And then, 04 could have taken that success and...who knows?

What do you think?

Tough to think about. Don't know what else to say. A little morbid for me.

One player does not do it... fx Cavan Biggio will not turn around Notre Dame by himself...

I do have an opinion though...

I felt the whole season, the guys seemed to expect to win because ''We're LSU'' and ''destined'' to win it with the loss of Pontiff...

So could have changed the team's mentality.. and not wait for things to happen

Does anyone have the same opinion?.. Seemd like the guys thought the 'magic' of the program was going to work out that losing a teammate would win them the Championship in his honor...

At the same time, hard to truly criticize 18-24 year old mentality in losing a close teammate........

But I have always felt that those guys waited fot things to happen.... and it was a given they would win being LSU...

But lastly, it all does not matter.... Wally was taken away from this world, and with his maker....

Whether LSU ''would have won IF'' doesn't matter a pot of beans.....

RIP Wally

His father said that his son had not officially told anyone anything, but his heart was leaning towards LSU.

How was LSU a little better in 04 than 03 when in 03 they won the SEC and was the #2 national seed?

They only got a regional in 04 and lucked into hosting a super regional when Rice lost.

I don't think this thread is all that appropriate fwiw.

It's not like he transferred and you're wondering what if he stayed.
