Howdy,

Whats the best route: Through Shreveport or through Monroe?

Wife and I are going for first time. Have ticket request and hotel reservations.

Im guessing Shreveport, but looking for a little confirmation from those with experience.

Thanks.

The best route anywhere is never through Monroe, Louisiana. All roads, hopes dreams and aspirations end there. Best bet- go through Shreveport.

Disclaimer: I have never driven to Omaha.

With that said, if I were driving, I would go I-55 thru Memphis then Hwy 63 over to Kansas City then up I-29. I hate driving 2 lane highways.

I am assuming you are leaving from Baton Rouge.

This is out of the way, but is all interstate.

You can also go straight up through Zachary/St. Francisville to Little Rock.

I always like to pass through Oxford with Omaha Bound painted on the back window flying my LSU flags. You would think Elvis was driving down main

I have tried them all...I-55 to St Louis and over, I-49 Shreveport to 71, even driven to Dallas and up through OK and KS...The one I have done the most is up to Natchez and then the back woods through Tallulah, Lake Providence, etc. up to Little Rock..it's a lot of wide open nothingness. This year we're probably doing Shreveport route and up to F'ville, etc because we're picking up a buddy in Shreveport. It's a long haul, but worth it.

From Baton Rouge, I'd vote for I-55 to St. Louis and over to Kansas City and KC to Omaha.

I have made the drive 3 times round trip. Every time I took the same route. Shreveport, Texarkana, Fort Smith, Fayetteville, Kansas City to Omaha.

I'm leaving from Abbeville though, so it makes no sense to go through Memphis for me. From BR I would prolly do Memphis route.

Warning though: from Texarkana to Fort Smith is terrible. Slower driving cause you going up the mountain and back down(about 3 hours) and you could get stuck behind a slow driver making it worse.

But if you have a radar detector, GPS and don't mind driving fast, it takes me about 15 hours with minimal stops. After Fort Smith its easy and quick driving the rest of the way(four lane US hwy).

This year however I'm gonna try a route that's about 30miles longer but no Mountain. Shreveport to Tyler to Tulsa straight up to KC then Omaha. We'll see how that goes. I'm tired of that mountain.

Eastiest & fastest route is 55 to St Louis, 70 to KC, 29 to Omaha. Just avoid the StL rush hour.

I am driving and this is what I am doing. I've driven the other routes and there are too many 2 lane roads and small towns.

If you are going through Shreveport, need to go to Longview and go north to the Indian Turnpike instead of going through Fayetteville.

You should stop going this way. It takes so much longer than 55 through St Louis.
