I'd say it's running back both in college and the pros. Provided you have talented backs, you can play them interchangeably. There's always the reliance factor on certain backs like AP and Gore but for the most part, you could start the backups with no significant drop off.

The hardest remain QB and corner IMO where both talent and knowledge of the system are crucial.

I'd say safety is pretty replaceable. They don't really make or break a team all that much.

Safeties are one of the most important players on the team.

Safety can make a can make a teams corners look a whole lot better and a whole lot worse than they actually are.

Runningback is the answer. I think eventually they will hit somewhat close to the Fullback level of use and pay.

But there are so many different types of running backs now days, 1st & 2nd down backs, 3rd down backs, short yardage backs.

Safeties are becoming way more specialized and technical, almost systemic now. Almost corner like.

Runningback but that doesn't mean some aren't better than others. Safety in today's NFL is an extremely
Important position.
