Dewalt vs. Ridgid cordless drills

My dewalt finally went out after many years. I always thought I never buy anything than dewalt. I needed a drill asap yesterday and borrowed one from a close by friend and it was a rigid. It seemed to have more power and was more compact. Ridgid was lithium with new batteries and mine was old school worn out batteries so I don't know if that was why seemed to have so much more power or not. What does the OB say?

Makita is my favorite. Dewalt makes great tools, but I hate their drills. The chucks suck on them. I like dewalt 110v tools and makita cordless.

You're not taking into account the newer tech your friends had vs your old one. The new cordless drills are badass.

I've got the Rigid set with the impact drill. Its a year old and it has been fantastic. Rigid also has a warranty on the batteries.
Whatever you choose go with lithium ion batteries. NiCad is the suck.

I would say go Makita. But all of the newer models are scores ahead of the old heavy dewalts. The newer battery technology has made these things very light and very strong.

Makita is the tits for battery drills and impacts IMO. They're so small and kick arse.

I have used cordless drills in my line of work for years. IMO, for the money, you just cant beat this DeWalt drill:

I have used it since before they called them DeWalt...back when they were Black and Decker Industrial. The XRP batteries are good and cheap to replace when they die.
I tried two of the Rigid cordless with Lithium batteries, good drill, but the batteries will die within a year.
Rigid's corded stuff is great. I have their 1/2" corded hammer drill that is an absolute beast.

DeWalt. Rigid makes good tools but lacked in some details that would be important for a tool that is to be used frequently. Example: the bit release on the 1/4" impacts, DeWalt offers a larger, fully knurled sleeve while Rigid is much smaller and not well suited when wearing gloves.
Makita makes a great li-ion drill/impact kit for the money as does Hitachi. Used them plenty when installing cabinets. Very light weight and easy to move in confined spaces. Definitely not as durable as DeWalt and next to impossible to repair, still have a box with a Makita impact in pieces.

This sealed the deal for me. You have to be sure to register, etc., but I have already gotten several free batteries that would have cost a lot of money otherwise.

We have used these on the f-22 for the past 3 years without fail they are great and lifetime on batteries too.

I have several dewalt tools and really like them and I have several cordless dewalt drills. I have since bought some Bosch drill with lithium ion batteries and have but the dewalt drills up.
