Do they practice the "dogpile"? Sure seems like they do...

It just looks like the few guys on the bottom are going out of their way to semi-protect the pitcher. I'm pretty sure Ross and a few others basically cradled Cotton to try to prevent injury.

LSU schedule:

batting practice, 4:00-4:45 pm
fielding practice, 4:45-5:45 pm
bullpen work, 4-5 pm
dogpile work, 5:45-6:00 pm

We did under Coach Bertman, of course we also practiced how to come out of the dugout properly to celebrate/protect teammates.etc...

LSU practices a lot, not so much other teams ....

one of the articles after the SECC Cotton basically said this. The grabs the pitcher and kinda bear hugs him. They fall down in an embrace that protects the pitcher while everyone else piles on.

Watch the video, there is obviously an attempt by a few of the guys at the bottom to protect the pitcher. It may not be "practiced" but it was definitely discussed at some point and players had certain responsibilities when the dogpile starts.

If the team is gonna do it then I agree it should be done to protect one of your most vital players

It didn't protect Lane Mestepay. Didn't he get hurt in the dogpile?
