It's a 1carat center diamond. The jeweler is trying to sell it to me for 7k without the band but that sounds a bit high.

"just remember if you don't spend 3 months salary you don't love your fiance" - jewelers around the world

ps - so many factors cut, carat, clarity

1 ct from harry winston could be $100k and $7k would be a steal

I would not buy that for 7k.

5k is the upper end of the bell curve for a ring like that

You are either getting ripped off or paying for a name.

Got to the NO jewelry show. You could get that ring for $3-4k easy.

Or it could be a bit low without knowing color or clarity. What's the carat total of the other stones?

If it is a good stone, it's a good deal. If it is a shite stone, it's a bad deal.

Is that a platinum or white gold setting? What is the TCW of the micropave and the halo? Don't forget that having the wedding band set increases the value.

Assuming that is platinum, the setting and wedding band probably are running you anywhere from 1.7-2.5k $ and the center diamond is reasonably priced then for 4,500$ depending on the quality.

If those aren't platinum but rather white gold (better value anyways), the setting/band with micropave I believe should be closer to 1200-1600$

If you are getting a color less than a I or J, very good cut and a VS1 clarity on the center diamond though, you should try and negotiate down.

You could put this together on your own with those characteristics for probably about 6500$ Buying them all together is a little pricier typically since it requires no work

7k without the wedding band, sorry I forgot to mention that. Total carats is 1 and 3/4 I believe.
How would I figure out all the C's without the jeweler trying to dupe me?

The most expensive part of that ring is the center stone. You need the specks and what company graded it to even begin to have an idea on price...

If he didn't tell you that info, he is lying. Also, ugly ring

You are missing a lot of factors. He should provide you with the 4 C's at least. And even then, it depends on who certified it. You've got some research to do. I suggest starting here, and the differences will make thousands of dollars in difference.

If you are spending a good bit of money on a diamond, I would only buy one that is certified. More specifically GIA certified. This way the jeweler can't dupe you. I shopped for so long that I started to be able to see what the color and clarity were before looking at the certs.

OP needs to talk to other jewelers rather than taking this board's opinion based on an internet picture

too many factors

The internet is telling him what to ask the jeweler and where to get that information to make an inford decision. I feel like the internet wins on this one

I would probably recommend not buying any ring that isn't GIA certified.

A jeweler should give you all four Cs, (Cut,Clarity,Color,CaratWeight) that is verified by a certificaiton.

I would guess from what you have described and lack of a wedding band, that 7k is on the higher end for that ring and a very amateur guess would probably put it closer to the 4.5-5 k$ assuming that it is neither a near flawless or the color is perfect (which dramatically raises price) The quality of the center diamond is what will drive the price of nearly every ring that isn't a name designer

Everyone knows someone who is a USAA memeber and you may qualify yourself. They have a pretty top notch loose diamond purchasing program with a solid 12 month 0% payment plan for everything under 10000$. If you don't like the setting that pair up, you can get a custom setting made. I'll tell your right now that the 300$ "platinum bracelets" they sell cost them 5$ tops in materials so don't be afraid to negotiate.

Diamonds you have very little room to negotiate due to the distribution strategy by the diamond miners. Most jewelers make their margins on the setttings for engagement rings

Learned a lot of this from shopping for an engagement ring and from friends who work in jeweler shops

About $100. Take it to a jewelry store or pawn shop and ask them? I spent $5k on a platinum ring about 12 years ago and when me and the girl split I got the ring back and tried sell it years afterwards. I went to a pawn shop as well as the store I bought it at and was told I could get about $50 for it. I gave the lady in the store an ear full. She was freaking out because the customers were leaving. She tried to tell me I didnt buy it from there. I didnt have the reciept with me but it was the only store in the area. I told her I could throw it in a ditch because it was worth nothing. I ended up giving it away.

Actual pic is in the OP now. The seller is willing to drive the price down to 6500$ but I want to negotiate 5k and he said he couldn't do it. How do I go about negotiating this ring?
