I've finally passed the CPA exam after what seems like an eternity. So now I ask those in the know, what is my next step?
Will I receive an application in the mail, or do I have to call the State Boards?
TIA for any help

You will receive a package in the mail and it will contain an accounting standards test that is on paper and ridiculously easy and you mail it back in. I did this in September FWIW. Congrats.

Another test?!?!?
Thanks for the info and the congrats!
I don't think it's hit me yet that I won't have to wake up super early to study anymore.

Haha don't worry about it, seriously it's like 24 questions and they give you the standards to look up the answers. If you passed the real deal this is if no concern.
That will hit you soon, real soon!

Congrats on passing. I have had no better feeling in my career than the day that the exam was behind me.
Everything in life seemed better knowing that it was no longer hanging over my head.
Congrats again!

I think it's finally starting to dawn on me that I can have a life again. I graduated from college and started taking the test a month or two later. In the time I've been studying I've gotten engaged. Gotten married. And bought a house. All the while not being able to enjoy going to work and coming home and doing what I want.
I'm very excited now.

I don't have any information for you but just wanted to say congrats. I am working on my MAcc now and will be studying/taking the exam in the Spring and Summer of 2014.

Ah true. Just assumed Texas for whatever reason.

Naturally. Why would Louisiana have an ethics exam?

Oh please. We have to take ethics CPE. We just don't have to have an official college level ethics class or take a fill in the blank type exam that the texas guy was talking about.
We have a very strong ethic of integrity in the CPA community here in Louisiana.

Congrats, man - it is a great feeling.
In Iowa you have the 100 question ethics exam and you must work under a licensed CPA before you can become licensed. Does Louisiana have this requirement?

Thanks everyone. It's a big relief to finally be done.
There's no ethics exam, but like the guy above stated you have to take ethics CPEs. And we do have to work under a licensed CPA, but you can do it prior to passing the test. (I think as long as it is withing four years of finishing.)

You can get in trouble if you represent yourself as a CPA even if you have passed the exams but haven't completed the other licensing requirements.
No ethics exam here although we do have ethics CPE requirements.
Also, yes- you have to have a year of experience supervised by a licensed CPA. They are also very meticulous about what type of experience counts. For example, just being an accounting clerk and booking AP or AR is probably not considered acceptable. I know alot of friends that have not had experience count.

The experience must involve the use of accounting, attest, management advisory, financial advisory, tax, or consulting skills. It must be of sufficient complexity and diversity, and be supervised and verified by a licensed CPA. The experience may be from employment in public practice, private industry, non-profit, or government and must be at least one year of full-time or 2,000 hours part-time experience, or a combination of these.

I didn't work under a CPA, but he was an EA and was very well respected by many CPA's. I petitioned the board and they accepted my experience under the EA.

Well done. That is definitely more reputable experience than "accountant" work that alot of other people try to pass off for the requirement.
