Maybe it's me with the wishful thinking then but the "Mata is not a Mourinho type player" makes no sense. Every manager would love to have a #10 like Mata. He's a little more creative, less dymanic version of Sneijder who had his best season ever under Mou.

I really wish that was true, unfortunately with all the smoke there is likely to be a fire.
If they sell Mata or Luiz or god forbid both I'm going to have serious issues.

I cant see any reason to sell our best player in Mata. I would hope that Mourinho can find a way to fit him into his system. having read the couple of pieces on weaintgotnohistory about the issue i would probably agree with the idea that these rumors may just be a lead up to a contract extension.

So Chelsea have signed both Hulk and Cavani? Chelsea's beat writer implied today that Mourinho would be sacked for selling Mata.

Nah, I'm not saying they are exactly the same but he's a little #10 that can score goals from anywhere, great on set pieces, get the ball in the middle of the park and move the attack forward, and pick out passes to and from anywhere. He's not as strong or dynamic or as good in space as Sneijder but he's more creative and better in tight spaces and it makes no sense to say he can't fit into Mourinho's system. He is the kind of player that is a great fit for pretty much any system and even if he wasn't he's good enough you tweak the system to make it work.
I would never say never about anything but if we sell Mata I would be beyond shocked.

I understand your point but I've heard much more Mata , etc. being sold than I have either of them joining.
Rumors about players joining are a dime a dozen. Rumors of people being up for sale by their current team are often more credible.
If the club would come out and deny it I'd feel better albeit only slightly.

This is a ploy for a pay raise. All of his quotes indicate that he is happy at Chelsea and to be working with Mourinho. He's the best player on the team and isn't one of the higher paid players.
Michael Emenalo would have to ok this and I could never see that happening. Chelsea do not sell their best players.
I highly doubt that Jose has already made his mind up to sell the clubs best player before even seeing him in training.
Pretty preposterous.

it seems like some of you aren't comprehending the difference between "may listen to offers for" and "OUT THE DOOR, GONNA BE SOLD!"
it's how things work now under FFP. you guys can't bring in two or three big signings and keep everyone you have. selling torres won't be enough because he won't get you any sort of fee in return.
the transfer market is a fluid situation. no one has said Mou has made up his mind to sell either Mata or Luiz.

I think TSO knows what kind of reaction that would bring from the fans and, unlike at Real Madrid, I think he cares what the Chelsea fans think of him. He loves them/us and they/we love him back.
This club has been divided pretty much since Jose left, outside of maybe Carlo's first season, and his return was the one thing that could bring it all back together. I just can't see him immediately fracturing that by shipping off Mata or Luiz.
Again I could be way off or just engaging in wishful thinking but that's how I see it.

Mourinho is a classic narcissist. He wants the adulation and needs the constant affirmation. He loves the fans because they love him; the relationship isn't equivocal.

His relationship with Chelsea was completely different than it was with Inter and Madrid. He was clearly never really happy at either.
If he really cared what they thought/"wanted their adulation" at Madrid he wouldn't have benched Casillas.

You can believe whatever you like if that helps you sleep at night. Also, he was pretty happy at Inter. He had an experienced squad that played exactly the way he wanted and an owner who would buy whoever he wanted. He left not because he was unhappy, but because the Madrid job is the biggest in world soccer.
If you listen to his press conferences, and read his comments, it's pretty clear he is a narcissist. He probably isn't so extreme on the spectrum that you could label his version a disorder, but his need to be admired is pretty severe. Chelsea fans give him the admiration so willingly that it's no surprise he returns to feed his ego, especially after his relative failure at Madrid, having been brought in to win the "Decima."
