Will Oladipo not work out for the Pelicans? UPDATE working out for Minny

From an ESPN article on the Timberwolves wanting to move up and grab Oladipo.
It looks like Oladipo's agent won't allow him to be perceived as anything less than a top 4 pick. I wonder if that means he won't work out for the Pelicans?

There's still a strong interest from the Wolves in moving up in the June 27 NBA draft to select Indiana guard Victor Oladipo. According to sources, the Wolves have spoken to Oladipo's camp. No workout has been set up, because Oladipo's representatives need sufficient evidence that the Wolves can move up to Orlando's spot at No. 2, Washington's spot at No. 3 or Charlotte's spot at No. 4.

Hopefully they trade with Washington and Porter falls to us.

Weird.
Is it common for guys to do that? Or does he just not want to play in Minnesota?

It's pretty common for agents to refuse workouts that make a player look like he has the potential to fall, I just didn't think 4 would be the cutoff that seems pretty high. Because the flip side of that is that if he does fall he may fall further than he should have because you refused to let teams like the Pelicans work him out.

He worked out with the Suns the other day and they pick at 5, so it sounds like his agent won't let him work out with the Wolves until they show they can move up from 9 to possibly grab him.

They may not have, but his agent may want to give the impression that he was promised.

Not saying you're wrong, but that just seems strange.
Especially on the team's side. Havent they scouted and interviewed every player they like at this point?
Of the many highlights of David Kahn's amazing exit interview in Minnesota, one of my favorites was his passing on Steph Curry to take Flynn because Curry didn't do an individual workout for them.

Yea, if he has a promise from a team like Phoenix, his agent won't allow him to workout with anyone after Phoenix.

Very very common. Agents play the game to make it "seem" like their guy should go in a certain range.

It's a risky move if in fact he doesn't have a promise because although it creates this "perception of top 5 value," if he falls, he could fall a decent amount if the teams in the middle or back end of the lottery are hesitant to draft a kid they didn't personally bring in.

I understand the concern of his agent not letting him workout for teams who draft over #5 spot, but let's be honest Olidapo is a top #5 player in a weak draft such as this one. So, even if he slipped past #5, he would not slide out of top 6-8 spot regardless if q team worked him out or not. If Olidapo is on the board at #6 for the Hornets, then that quite possibly means guys like Burke, Len, and maybe even Zeller have gone ahead for whatever reason. So if Olidapo is on the board we take him, unless we take MCCollum period. his agent knows the field and knows his value. They are shooting for the top pick if possible, so why work out for teams lowering than top 5. Unnecessary.

There are reasons that teams hold these workouts. If it was all based on college tape and combine testing, why would teams go through the trouble. It's important for teams to get an intense and personal look at these young inexperienced kids. It's important to see how a player carries himself around your organization and how he reacts to your coaches. I read recently that Dell and Monty have, in the past, shown preferences to sticking with what they know and trying to avoid uncertainty, and it's hard to believe that there aren't other teams with front office personal that behave the same way.

The Timberwolves will sit down with Victor Oladipo on Friday, a source tells 1500 ESPN.
So does this mean Flip has a deal in place already because last week Dipo's agent wouldn't meet with the Wolves until they knew they could move up?

That does seem to imply it. There have been lots of rumors about Washington trading their pick and John Wall said he wanted a pick and pop big. Derrick Williams and #9 for #3 makes a lot of sense.

What else would the Wizards be giving up on that deal? They have to move at least $3-4m in salary to take on Williams.
That would imply some combination of Vesely, Singleton, and Seraphim unless Minny wants Ariza for some reason.
