I'm sure he'll stay if Demps plans on picking him. The Pelicans just need to make sure they get all the workouts in before the 17th. So far only Burke is scheduled and that's not until the 14th.

I was actually kind of surprised about the personal workout for Burke...they have been hesitant to downright defiant on individual workouts in the past.

As for Saric...

We'll see. I think this is Chad Ford regurgitating what we all heard yesterday. It could be agent posturing, or he might truly not be ready.

I wouldn't put much into that.

I forgot about that. The only thing I can think of is they aren't really interested in him but want Detroit to think they are. Dropping back to 8 to get Saric would make sense, but I'm not sure what Detroit has to offer in a trade down scenario. They obviously wouldn't give up their 2014 1st and anything else they have that's available would seem like not enough.

Saric will not pull out if he gets a lottery guarantee. He is just poturing to ensure he gets one.

While I tend to agree (in fact, I definitely agree), sometimes you just never know.

Some guys think differently. He may think that he just isn't ready for the NBA physically and mentally, and doesn't want the pressure to come over on anyone else's timeline but his own.

They can't give up their 2014 first, as it could be going to the Bobcats if it is outside the high lottery.

Outside of that, they can offer us 2nds and paying a lower scale to Saric by picking him 8th rather than 6th.

That doesn't seem like much, although the risk of someone trading up to 7 for Saric seems pretty low. Would the Blazers give up assets to draft Saric when they already have Batum?

Personally, I think folks have gone WAAAAAY overboard on the Saric stuff. Particularly Demps taking a trip to see him play, aka....his job.

The guy's gonna be playing for his national team so he won't be available for workouts with teams. So obviously it was now or never for any team that wanted to see him in person.

To me this is just Dell doing his due diligence. Something any GM should be doing. It doesn't have to mean Dell has some radar lock on the guy as our pick. Dell's scouted hundreds of players, we're only gonna pick one of these guys. If OKC for example calls offering us their 12th pick, when Dell looks down at his list of "best available," im sure he'd liked to have actually seen the guys in that group in person.
