And the league can be competitive, but it doesn't mean it has NBA caliber players there.
The same can be said for most NCAA competition.

So in order to "EVALUATE THE PLAYER!!!!" you must know who he is playing against .
You could say the same about CJ or any college player for that matter. It is not as though the college level is even near as competitive as it use to be.

DJ Strawberry played well, but cant get an NBA sniff ?
Potential.

i know, but seeing CBB played so often, we at least know how to scale it.
We know the coaches, we know the programs & systems, we know the players starting from 8th grade. We have a lot more information at our disposal

Wouldn't you think that Dell Demps has a good barometer for how competitive that league is, considering:
He has scouted it much more closely for years.
He has watched their games, in person.
He scouted for the SA Spurs who have made their bones internationally.
AND
He played for the exact same team that Saric plays for (albeit briefly).
It is hard for US to do that because we don't have the resources, I've just seen mentions that that league is competitive. And, Croatia did beat US in the U-19s, right? Him being a big part of that team at only 17.

Demps played there so presumably he does have the information that we lack. If Saric is the pick Demps is pretty much asking us to trust that he knows what he's doing. I just hope that Burke and McCollum end up on good teams where they won't start, because if one of them does what Lilard did it could get ugly.

Ok I didn't know demps was ever a euro scout. That makes sense

I see where you are coming from there. I guess I am of the similar opinion of what the other guys were saying. That I may not know what he is capable of. Demps on the other hand has a lot more info at his disposal. So if he were to go with him, I would trust his call. Not sure if that makes any sense

My problem with Saric is his defense. He won't be able to guard the dominant SF's we see in the game today (LBJ, Melo, etc) But I guess he could guard the PF's and AD could guard the SF. But that takes AD out of the paint, where he's at his best. I just don't see where Saric fits in.

Actually $3.2m since every team gives rookies 120% of the slotted amount, but I agree. That extra money may be the difference in landing the FA we want and settling for a plan C, or landing the FA we want and having the money to take on a guy like Deng for one season. Or that $3.2m could be used to sweeten the pot for a player like Korver or Webster to sign a one year deal with us, Landry/Kaman style.
Very good point, and this may very well be the plan. If this gives the team a better option in FA, then go for the proven talent by a move such as this would only help the team, that is wanting to win some games NOW.
The article also made me like the idea of Saric a little more. If I had to choose, I like Burke, but there are quite a few different moves that can be done this off-season to improve the 1 and 3 outside of the draft.

Or you could get EG to guard the 3 while Saric guards 2s in those situations

If he doesnt have the quickness to guard 3's how is he gonna guard the 2?

Other than LBJ those teams don't have amazing 2s
It would only be for spurts anyway
I'm sure he could be at least competent

Who can guard LBJ & Melo? I don't think his d will be a problem. He has great length for sure.
re: Everything You Need to Know About Dario SaricPosted by TigerinATL on 6/6/13 at 2:43 pm to LosLobos111
I remember an article a few years ago about how unexpectedly effective Peja's defense was. Basically he played off people to keep them from driving but he had the length to still get a hand in their face, so most of what they took vs. Peja were semi contested jump shots which isn't particularly efficient. Saric could probably do the same thing.

So when Benson said there will be no more excuses of losing, what or who do you think he was referring to?
And no I don't want this to go on a hate/love Monty tangent.
And it was reported that he was looking for his coach while saying this.

I can see that. Well we would have quite a big starting lineup that could cause some serious matchup issues if Saric Started....
GV (6'6'')
EG (6'3'')
Saric (6'10'')
Davis (6'11'')
Lopez (7'0'')
