Not really a movie thread I guess, but I just finished reading the book and since the movie is coming out I figured I could put it here. Wondering what the boards thoughts were on the rest of the Ender saga. I feel like Card wrapped it up pretty nicely. Should I continue with the saga or will I be disappointed if I continue?

THe sequels are a completely different animal. I liked them but they aren't anything like the first book.

Speaker for the Dead>Ender's Game.

And I thought Xenocide was even better, although some disagree

And this.

The rest of the Ender quartet is very philosophy driven.

The Shadow series is more in line with Ender's Game than them.

I would definately read Ender's Shadow. I ended up reading the rest of the Bean series.

So if I want to think a lot read the Ender series and if I just want to enjoy a book read the shadow series?

Eh.

I wouldn't phrase it quite like that.

Well, how would you phrase it? Which do you recommend and in which order?

There are two sets of books. one involves the kids you met in ender's game and is an amazing series.

One involves random aliens in space and sucks balls.

Keep reading. Speaker for the Dead is better than Ender's Game.

yeah xenocide is probably the worst book out of any of the series. its completely worthless.

honestly, the rest of the series is just okay. and i think card knows that because now he is going back and writing more ender books based on when he was still a kid. thats what people enjoyed. not older, bitchy ender.

I liked Speaker much more than EG.

Speaker was good but I couldn't give two shits about the characters. I found just about all of the characters in EG interesting.

Don't get me wrong, I really liked EG, but there was much more at stake in Speaker. It was a better story IMO.

I enjoyed both series, but I prefer the Shadow books predominately because Bean, Peter, Petra>>>>>>>>>>Ender and Val

Neither of the main series that the original book spawned are anything like EG. The Shadow books really aren't sci-fi and are more conventional political/action thrillers.

The Speaker books are much, much more personal and philosophical. I enjoyed Speaker and Xenocide a lot, but Children of the Mind was just way too out there for me.

Ok someone give me the rundown on this series. Enders Game is the original, correct? Is this like Dune where it spins off into 18 million sequels and shite never wraps-up or can I read Enders Game and 1 or 2 more and be done?

I hate it when there are so many spin-offs you feel like it never ends.

TIA!

Ender's Game is the original. Ender's Shadow is the same timeline centralized around a secondary character in Ender's Game, Bean. They split into two separate sagas, with Ender's saga not featuring many of the same themes/storylines/characters from the original. Bean's saga features many of the kids in the battle school, focusing around Bean and Ender's brother.

Read the Shadow series first. I believe there will be elements from Ender's Shadow that are going to be in the movie. Also the shadow series is one which will more easily translate into movies if Ender's Game does well enough in the box office to warrant sequels.

I did really enjoy the Ender quartet, but it is much more about life and philosophy and does not have much action
