Two weeks ago I turned it off to take a water break. Haven't been able to start it since. I am absolutely lost for solutions.

Ok, here is the set up

- 7 year old Honda 21' push mower OHV 2.2 horsepower.

- Pulls just fine and makes all the associated noises. (not locked up)

- No oil on the plug

- Changed plug and its getting a nice spark.

- Starter fluid does absolutely nothing help. Still makes the same sound without catching.

- Nothing appears to be bent

- All the stupid stuff has been checked. Plenty of fuel. Fuel turned on. Plug wire snug around spark plug.

I have never had problems with the mower until two weeks ago.

What am I missing? Any help would greatly be appreciated.

two possibilities if it's getting strong spark and fuel.
Timing off(sheared shear pin) or low compression.

There is very little to these motors. Nice motor. Plug and cable, fuel line clear and open, air filter relatively clean, proper amount of oil in reservoir, carb clean, and choke operating. There isn't much else. Check the choke, make sure the fuel line is clear, and make sure the plug wire is solid with no breaches or shorts. If it won't start, spray some starter spray into the carb and try again. If none of that works, be glad you got 7 seasons out of it.

Hell, I am one of them. Never had the first issue with it till now. Always started on first pull.

I would think that even with the timing off it would backfire or something when fuel was ignited.

Pull the starter cord with the plug out and a finger over the plug hole to be sure it has compression. If it is, pour a little gas directly into the cylinder, reinstall the plug, and try cranking again. If there is a carb drain port, drain some to make sure it's fuel is flowing. Could be rust in gas tank/fuel line after 7 yrs.

one tooth off, maybe. Any more than that mechanical compression would be off too much to fire the mixture. Have had this happen to two mowers of mine after hitting roots.

Give the man a prize - I think we have a winner.

Just got off the phone with my son. He just informed me that he hit a few holes which caused the engine to bottom out and bog down. This was followed with blue smoke coming out the exhaust.

my Honda pushmower never had probs, and i ran it for 12 years. Just from other small engine issues, sounds like fuel probs. Dump current fuel, pour in a little lacquer thinner, and crank it until it starts. That will clear out the gunk from old fuel. Once started put new gas in and run it.
