Dario Saric tells Taking The Charge podcast he will stay in Europe if picked in #2013NBADraft. LINK

I'm not sure if this would change whether Demps picks him or not, part of the appeal of Saric might have been as a eurostash. He's also mentioned in the past that he will pull out if he's not going to be a lottery pick.

If he's not planning on coming over, I don't see him getting picked in the lottery.

I mean it does happen, but I don't see it happening with him.

We're in no position to stash. I wasn't high on him. I think it's good news for the Pels.

Last I'd heard, Saric said he'd stay in Europe *if picked outside the lottery*.

If he's staying in Europe, I don't mind purchasing a mid-1st to late 1st to get him, but not using a fricking lottery pick on him.

That would make sense, his buyout is $1.5 million of which NBA teams are only allowed to pay $500k, so no point in hurrying to the NBA if it costs you money. But this is from 4 days ago:

quote:

He has said before that unless he is a lottery pick, he would not remain in the draft (June 17 is the early withdraw deadline), which makes you wonder what kind of promises Saric is really receiving as the NBA Draft draws near.

Not sure how connected Chris Miles is but he's currently tweeting about draft prospects like he's paraphrasing team sources (see Draft Workout thread). Here's a relevant one on Saric.

It is clear what the game plan is...Saric #1 on the board PG improvement #2 and Center #3

I find it highly unlikely that point is #2 on the list over center if they like Rivers and seem content with Vasquez as starter for now.

Well Miles and Fletch work together, so it could just be he and Fletcher speculating.

We have heard a lot connecting us to Saric. I just can't see us stashing a guy at 6.

I'd rather them trade the pick if all we are gonna do is stash Saric. Especially at 6.

BTW, it looks like McNamara has decided to go out on a limb today and is calling Saric as the pick.

23 days from draft night, I feel the same way I did on the night of the lottery: the Pelicans will select Dario Saric.

@KingJewels Someone else can waste their time doing that[Burke article]. Saric will be the pick if it isn't traded

Current Saric piece over 3000 words... and growing! You will have all the info you need on the first Pelican draft pick.

@ChampIAN_33 If they keep the pick, 99%

@dandre_5 3000+ words coming this Friday. Tons of upside. Very, very unique player

@ChampIAN_33 Told you on lotto night last yr Rivers would be the pick. This yr, I had Saric in my mock. Just follow me, you wont be shocked

Has anyone listened to the podcast yet to see if that's what he said? Or was it maybe confusing on whether he meant he wouldn't if he wasn't in the Lottery?

If they pick him, I'll be upset. If they pick him and he doesn't come, I'll be very upset.

No, I assumed it's not in English. But both McNamara and Miles have made reasonable excuses for him saying that and not meaning it. McNamara says it's agent posturing which makes sense if no lottery teams are making promises, and Miles says he was a kid caught up in the moment of winning a euro championship.

Thank god

6 was already way too high for Saric. Now I don't see anyway they make that pick now.

For the record, I wouldn't take Saric at 6, but I know it is coming, so I am trying to inform all the fans about him b/c there is obviously

That's all smoke and mirrors.

Dell simply told Saric to say this to scare off other teams. We're going to draft Len at 6 and we've already got a deal in place w/ Dallas for purchasing the #13 pick to take Saric.

Championship.

Any chance Dario Saric goes #6 to the Pelicans? Or would they only draft him if they trade back?

Chad Ford (1:15 PM) Yes and yes. There are a handful of teams that believe Saric is a top five talent in the draft. I believe the Pelicans are one of them. So, yes, if the guys they have ranked ahead of him are all gone, I do think they'd take him at 6. However, they could probably trade down to a pick like 9 or 10, pick up an asset and still get him. The scouts that REALLY know Europe say that there's not a huge difference between Saric and Otto Porter.
