If this sounds grandiose, that’s because it is. It’s far too early fully to judge Microsoft’s latest creation, of course, let alone to back winners in its combat with Sony’s forthcoming PlayStation 4. Despite the ferocious competition for attention and dollars, though, there’s something at the heart of console gaming that isn’t going away: the passionate desire to meld play and technology into something entirely apart from everyday life.

Closing comments on the article, I think affordable gaming platforms will have a place as long as they keep up with distribution methods.

No. If retards still buy every iteration of COD, people will still buy consoles.

true.

Frankly I will continue to use my seven year old 360 until it dies...

...then I will consider something else...likely I'll just go back to PC gaming.

No, but I think we are approaching the end of video game retailers like Gamestop.

They'll be going the way of music stores and movie rental stores in the not too distant future, unless they change their business model.

Yep the only way. Make sure your monitor bezels are extra thick for eyefinity, too.

Trill did a better job trolling with the rape stuff than he ever has calling PC gaming gay or whatever he is calling it this week.

I would like a pc, who doesn't want the best graphics , but not everybody wants that setup, why I think console will carry on.

While I expect this generation to not match or continue to grow like last generation (most HW/SW sold ever in one console generation!), I think consoles will still be a very lucrative market. Especially considering how much gaming is starting to grow in emerging markets (Brazil, India, etc).

LOL

It's getting to the point where you can almost buy an ultra-graphics-capable PC for the same price as a console. If console prices keep climbing like they are, eventually people will realize they can do more with a computer than a console for the same price. They're playing with fire with these recent prices. There will always be people who prefer consoles over PC gaming, but to those who aren't sold either way, with prices climbing higher and higher for consoles, they're going to start losing more of those customers.

I've never been an "ultra-graphics" proponent when the gameplay experience is the same. You are right about the prices though, since PC games have poor optimization you can get away with older parts and experience all the features.

Rumored price points are $400-500 and there's a near guarantee Xbone will have a subsidized pricing via Live contract (like what they have (had?) now with the $99 360).

An apt comparison if said gaming PC could still run the newest games at the same resolution 8-9 years later, because that's where were getting to with this console cycle.
