All my friends that are so called "Pelicans fans" are cheering for the Spurs and I thinks its a disgrace

frick the Heat and everything they stand for. People have this silly hatred for the Spurs because their geographic location happened to place them in our division. We are striving for our team to be built like the Spurs. frick this super team bullshite.

You don't EVER cheer for a division rival to win a championship. I told everyone this when they were the biggest Mavs fans and Dirk worshippers 2 years ago.
Absolute travesty to cheer for the Spurs and I dont care if its the Heat. Just dont cheer for anyone
This is a perfect example of the irrationality that pervades much of "fandom".

Considering that Monty and Dell are trying to turn the Pelicans into Spurs-lite, it's actually in our benefit to root for that team. Convincing players like Davis in the future to stick it out here and pointing to them as an example is a contributing factor in what Monty/Dell are trying to accomplish.
Further, I got to attend a Spurs NBA Finals game against the Pistons my senior year of high school (friend's dad had the hook up with Whitney, which had Hornets/Rockets/Mavs/Spurs at the time). The arena is right smack in the middle of a neighborhood, the crowd is raucous, and the drive home is pretty awesome. You have to drive through the neighborhoods to get back to downtown SA and 50% (not exaggerating) of the houses had people in their lawn, on their porch, waving around Spurs flags to the traffic. The Heat fans are notoriously awful fans.

What the frick does a division rival matter in the NBA anyway? The Playoffs are seeded according to the top 8 teams in the Conference, not the division.
In the NFL and MLB, where fewer teams reach the playoffs, and only the division winner is guaranteed a spot, your theory holds some truth. But in the NBA model, you play 11 of the 15 teams in your conference 4 times a year, the other 4 you play 3 times. This is such a silly argument.
Keep cheering for the Heat, but don't give us some lame excuse about how that makes you a bigger Pelicans fan than the rest of us.
