About to take a 13 hour trip. Wanted to hook up the ps3 so the kiddos could play. What all do I need to do? I know I need a converter, but what size? Anything else I need to do?

TIA

call mobile one and ask them, they do stuff like that all the time, if you dont live near a mobile one, then call your local car audio place, they would be able to tell you

I hooked up an original fat ps3 to a car's DVD player and it blew a fuse. Don't know about the slim models.

Get ready to spend a lot of money on a GOOD power inverter and hardwiring it to your battery (lots of cable running). You cannot, repeat, CANNOT, run it off your cig lighter and get NEAR enough juice to power the PS3.

Depending on what PS3 model you have depends on what kind of power inverter you need.

The newest super slim model need just 190w. The original models need 380w. So obviously, big difference. The one most folks have, the "slim" (not "super slim") models, require 200-250w depending on model number.

Do not buy a cheap 400w inverter either, you need headroom and most of those cheaper "400w" inverters wont even red light a PS3 much less let it turn on (Even when hard wired to battery). I'd spend $50-$75ish on a solid 800(+) watt inverter to have some headroom and be safe. Once again, I REPEAT (cannot stress this enough ), hooking up the inverter through the cig lighter will NOT provide enough power to the PS3. It MUST be hardwired to the battery. Cant tell you how many times I've seen folks burn out a cheap inverter plugged into cig lighter trying to power ridiculous things and burnt fuses out as well.

I cannot stress enough too to get a GOOD inverter. I've seen decent 750 watt units not be able to power the old big PS3's which have a 380 watt power requirement but can power a newer slim model with 200-250 watt power draw.

Buy them a DS or Vita. You'd be better off.

Well a Vita is $250 and an inverter is will be just $75 at most, then of course the time and effort to hook it up. So the inverter is definitely the much cheaper option.

Damn! Never mind on hooking up the ps3. Everything I googled, and in ps forums, just said to get an inverter with continuous power for 350-400.

I thought this would be an easy thing.
