Newman has lost to McMain 2 years in a row. Newman is not a top 50 team in this state. Sorry...

if they're #50 I predict Karr is #1...

I also predict the list is gonna overrate NOLA teams, which is about time...

Take it up with the TP. I was just informing the TD that Herb's son is a beast.

McMain won't beat them this year.

Not a top 50 team, although the TP will pander to local teams to please their readership, so it's not surprising.

Too small to qb at the next level. Likely will play baseball though.

Broke both Eli and Peyton's passing records at Newman last year as a Sophomore.

ETA - was slightly off on my statement above:

quote:

Tyler, though just a sophomore, put together a season at Newman rivaled by only one other Greenie quarterback, Peyton Manning. The 5-9, 165-pound son of former LSU quarterback Herb Tyler accounted for 3,097 yards and 45 touchdowns with his passing and running in 8½ games while driving the Greenies to a state playoff berth and 5-5 record.

Despite missing 1½ games because of an ankle sprain, the Greenies’ dual-threat quarterback completed 224 of 307 passes (73 percent) for 2,549 yards and 36 touchdowns with just six interceptions in his first full season as a starter. He also rushed for 548 yards and nine touchdowns while averaging 6.5 yards on 84 carries.

The 45 combined touchdowns eclipsed the previous school record of 44 set by Manning in 1993. Tyler also established single-game game records for passing yards (470), touchdown passes (six), completions (40), attempts (60), total yards (622) and total touchdowns (nine). Tyler came within 154 yards of equaling Manning’s 1993 season passing yardage record of 2,703.

In their defense, I'm sure a lot of people from Haynesville and Bastrop go to Nola.com. Of course they're going to suck up to their audience.

yeah I don't see the Shreveport Times doing this kind of stuff and having dedicated reporters for Monroe, etc.

I hear about the rest of the state hating on NOLA, but I believe the feeling should be mutual

And you had to open the column with a local team to generate local buzz or the column would just die or fade away. Nobody's gonna pay attention if you put Jonesboro-Hodge at 50.

Maybe, Maybe not... McMain lost both of their key receivers from last season. The qb is returning though.

Mandeville should be top 10 after 2 back to back final 4 finishes.
