Finally went to see the new Star Trek film and other than taking out some of the emotional impact at the end, I didn't have a single problem with the movie.

Plenty of humor. Good action. 100% less lensflare. Well acted baddie.

I've seen some complain about the motivation but Khan's motivation made 1000 times more sense than the last film or heck, the last 3 Trek films had trouble making any real sense out of the motivation behind the bad guy.

The effects were top notch. Really is nice to see Trek with a mega budget. Only problem is, I don't see them continuing to make enough money to keep going with the big time budgets.

I stayed away from all spoiler threads so I didn't see Kirk / Spock swap coming which was nice.

My one beef is that they lessened that emotional blow. I was shocked they would do that, and I immediately thought back to Bones working on the tribble.

Some didn't like Spock's arc. I liked it. My favorite moments from TOS was Spock showing emotion, like when he thought he had killed Kirk.

Spock action hero. A little over the top, but Vulcans are far stronger than humans. That isn't out of the realm of belief.

If I were to nitpick like they did in the other thread, the lack of planetary defenses would once again be an issue. Just like it was in the last movie when the Death Drill took out Vulcan.

I guess it was a bit weak that the Admiral was trying to fabricate a war with the Klingons. All he had to do was wait. There really wasn't a reason to handle things the way he did. His motivation was weak. Not using Khan. That made sense. Starting the war, that was a definite weak point.

Heck, if he built a few of those section 31 ships, I imagine we could dominate the Romulans and Klingons. I assume Section 31 was able to reveres engineer some of the wreckage from the last movie.

Uhuru looks good and her character did more with glances than the weak lines she was given. Not much of a problem TOS uhuru barely registered.

Underwater ship didn't bother me. Sure, they did it just for the effects and not for any real purpose, but perhaps they needed to be close in case of emergency beam out and from orbit the volcano was causing too much disruption.

Oh, I didn't mind it at all but the Khan scream didn't work or I can see why people didn't like it.

Overall, solid film which looked great the only minor plot problems unlike the last film with Romulans sitting is space for 26 years waiting for Spock.

I know tldr.

Me too. Heck, the 3-D spears made me move my head.

And I hate 3-D.

First one cost about $140 mil and grossed $385,680,447 worldwide.

This one cost about $190 mil and has grossed $257 mil already.

Looks like they are making plenty of money.

I thought this was a great opening sequence. It's dramatic as hell and I didn't expect that. I was expecting it in orbit. When it rose out of the ocean, you could a get a good idea on the scale of the enterprise compared to the aliens which were the same size as us.

It was also pretty cool to see the enterprise flying amongst the clouds and blue sky. It was fast as shite.

Suspense of disbelief wasn't my problem with this movie. It was the systematic, formulaic, mutated regurgitation of the original storylines and characters - coupled with the realization that this will be repeated for years to come.

No movie is ALL bad, and I agree that this one has some of the qualities you listed, but it's a Star Trek movie. There's a much higher bar for that, and this was insulting to me.

Maybe Abrams is an evil genius, and this is his way of torturing trekkies forever.

Definitely felt like a Star Wars movie and for that I salute Abrams. I was dreading Episode 7 so much, but after this movie, now I can't wait.
