I just bought this CPU LINK. I need a recommendation on a motherboard and power supply.

A buddy is giving me his old 6850 gpu, so I will be using it.

Stout is our amd CPU user so he will know better but I think I saw a 620w Psu on sale via newegg today that was corsair maybe? Also an asrock extreme 3 would probably do the trick, they are good for intel and I may have seen that on sale too.

Newegg deal page

Going to be honest with you, that gpu won't do much. If you are willing to lower settings and just play till you upgrade it will be fine. That's your first upgrade though

That's what I'm going for. That gpu will get me by until I upgrade. I'm about to bite the bullet on that asrock board on the weekend deals.

It's not terrible. It's just last year's model they are clearing out I believe. It's 3.6 GHz that will hit 4.0 pretty easy on air I imagine.

I think we are talking about 2 different things. I was referencing the gpu, not CPU.

Oh my bad...I read it as the CPU because I am dumb and because I glanced at it but yea that GPU needs to go.

Surely you're referring to the FX-8150, and not the 6850...

The only pc game I've been playing is diablo 3. I've been playing it on my MacBook Pro at 640x480 on low settings so anything will be an upgrade.

Do you intend on playing anything else?

If not, the 6850 would be more than sufficient...

Oh I'm definitely going to get into more games, just haven't been able to (Mac). The gpu will be my first upgrade though.

I would consider making a deal on a 7870 from stout, it's a good card that will let you game at 1080 max or near or almost everything.

I only have that one brand new one right now and one I am using in my PC. I sold the other one I had yesterday but I have a Gigabyte 7870 being RMA'd right now that will be back in a few weeks. I am not sure yet if they will refurb or replace it but if it's a refurb unit I can make a great deal on it.

I am starting to feel like a crack dealer slinging these PC parts like this.

I am watching a few auctions with 2 690's and one Titan right now. All customer returns in good condition.

Would this power supply suffice or would I need more power for the processor mentioned? I have no intentions of crossfire or sli. LINK

How much did you buy that CPU for if you don't mind saying?

It's a decent one for gaming, but many i3 chips can outperform it for the same cost
