Don't get me wrong. I love going to LSU games, especially the regionals. But man, it used to be awesome to get to watch some of those powerhouse teams come into the Box.

I agree. I grew up on those 8 team regionals and watched some awesome ball over the years.
I will say that the current format made it appear easier to advance for traditionally stronger teams like LSU. just miss the old 8 team tourneys.

1999 was the first year with a super regional format.
I thought they expanded the field to 64 before that though, around '97 or so.

I vaguely remember logistical nightmares like the LSU regional being pushed to Tuesday because of rain and then playing in the CWS on Friday.
