Maryland writer talks about Len's time in college park and gives his thought on Len as an NBA player:

4. What will fans of the NBA love and/or hate about this prospect?

Len has outstanding athletic ability - it's what really separates him from a lot of the other European big men, and putting that together with a sweet-mid range game gives him some serious offensive potential. On the defensive end, his sizeable wingspan gives him some shot-blocking ability, and all the raw tools are there for an All-Pro player. Combined, those can end up in some serious explosive, game-changing plays on both sides of the floor.

Hate is a strong word, but Len's rawness will certainly get on the nerves of whatever team picks him, especially if he skips the D-League. He certainly lacks awareness on either side of the ball, and while questioning a player's heart is a dangerous games, there were plenty of games where it looked like Len was giving little-to-no effort last season.

quote:

5. Anything else you want to share about him?

He's a good kid - never heard one bad story about him, and once he's given the time in the weight room and on the practice court to develop his game, he could become one of the premier centers in the league. Patience is going to be needed for any fan that follows his career, but down the line it just could work out better for you guys than it did for Maryland.

His foot injury is a bit concerning, but I still think he could be the best player out of this draft in 5 years. His upside is legit.

The foot injury is scary for a big man. Also, I'd like someone who could contribute quicker than he probably will. I do think he's going to be pretty good, and could make a really good pair with Davis, so I wouldn't be upset if we picked him.

I don't really know too much about his injury. if it's a possible career problem I may rethink my position if it's something that will heal completely and is not a consistent thing he is my first choice at 6 if the draft goes like expected with the first 5

A developed, healthy Len paired with Davis would be sweet. Hell, all of these guys are a gamble.

The problem with a gamble on Len is that I don't think we figure out what we've got until 3-4 seasons down the line.

Some of these other players, like a Porter, Oladipo, etc., I think we would find out what we've got within a season.

they probably won't be there at 6 so that doesn't really factor in

Those two were just examples. I'm talking about every player considered to be within the top tier of players, which are those two, Noel, McLemore, Bennett, and Burke.

Considering the lack of PG's that will be available in free agency, I think you go with Burke and go all in on Pek.

Not only that, this fan base needs a jump start. I don't want to say we don't have time to wait on a guy like Len but we are in a market that doesn't give a lot of unconditional support, so a winner is more vital.

The biggest misconception about him. He's not raw. He's young and developing. He already has legit post moves and the athleticism and size to contribute once he's healthy. He's not a bench warmer like many raw prospects that comes into the league.

I agree with all of this (except I am starting to like Mccollum over Burke, but would be happy with either). I just hate how FA is after the draft.
