I will be on the Brazos river, about 18 mi inland from the Gulf this weekend and plan on doing some fishing. Is there any thing I should pay attention to as far as the tide? and what kind of bait would work?

I figured tide coming in is best and use shrimps on a cork...but I'm not an avid fisherman so any advice would be helpful

Find you some locals, and do what they do. Anytimg I find myself in a new area with a fishing pole in hand, I'll chat someone up/pick their brain.

The closest bait shop/tackle jernt would be a good place to start.

I have been working in Dow, Plant B for the last 3 years and am right by an outfall into the Brazos. Most redfish I have ever seen in my life. I am not sure about fishing 18 miles upriver but you may have some success if you can fish as close to Dow as possible. I have see an unbelievably big school of reds hitting the surface by a log pile right where the outfall hits the river. There is a little cut that gets logjammed every so often each year and the reds just kill it. I have also seen some 4'+ tarpons rolling with the reds in the outfall. Inside the plant I have seen so many reds together stacked up in outfall you could walk across it.

Also, my buddy has Kayaked from our neighborhood(on the Brazos) to the gulf on the Brazos 4 times and said there isn't much on it besides some sandbars. I don't think you can do much if any fishing any farther north than where you are.

I will be fishing on the river bank near a bend...I think there is a little sandbar I can get to. It's my g.f.'s parent's land and I've been out there plenty of times, just never fished. the ole man says he sees lots of action so I know the tide brings them in

Just bring a big variety of bates for either trout/reds or bass. Maybe see about picking up some live bait also if you can. Good luck.
