Just saw this. I will be excited to see it although Floyd will put together another defensive clinic and expose Alvarez.

Agreed. The build up will be great and this fight will generate a ton of money.

However, Floyd will crush the Canelo hype machine on September 14.

Golden Boy better hope Alvarez doesn't become the next Fernando Vargas. He was a hype machine as well until De La Hoya put him on the deck and Vargas was never the same.

Will be a super fight from a media perspective with both fighters having huge fan bases. Canelo will have to box his arse off and throw a significant amount of combos to have a chance. He's got to work on that jab too.

Why 152? Why not 154 and get his 2 LMW belts (which he previously held when he beat DlH & Cotto at 154)

It is for the 154 belt

Floyd just put a stipulation that despite the weight class being 154, he doesn't want canelo coming in heavier than 152

If Mayweather-Alvarez is anywhere near as exciting (inside and outside the ring) as De La Hoya-Vargas, it'll be worth it!

I never thought this fight would get made. Certainly not so soon. Fantastic news! Can't wait!

I agree with most - Floyd's speed & D will be too much for Canelo.

Even though I believe Canelo loses, I wont say he will get "exposed." The kid is only 22 and I dont think he has hit his ceiling yet. A loss here wouldn't derail that, IMO. This is just a case of him taking on too much, too soon.

Fernando Vargas was always overhyped. He had the Mayweather personality with a great heart but only had B-plus or A-minus skill. When he stepped up in opposition, he'd lose.
He was wiped out by Felix Trinidad (Vargas was knocked down 3-4 times en route to being stopped late in the fight - although it was a fun fight to watch). I believe Vargas went 5-5 or something close to that after the Tito fight, including the loss to Oscar and getting stopped by Mosley a couple of times. He'd reel off a few wins in a row against lesser opposition in between big fights, but then get stopped everytime he take on one of those big fights.

Anyways, my point being that Vargas was never as good as the best fighters near his weight regardless of the hype. I think Canelo does get there, even with a loss to Floyd.

Canelo isn't ready for what he's going to get from Floyd. But I'm still glad they made this fight.

I cant beleive that golden boy let their cash cow take this fight

Wow is all i can say .

Floyd will win this easily and Canelo is young enough to recover from this .

If Canelo were two years older this would be an unbeleivable matchup.

Anyone that says Floyd is ducking anyone is purely being a hater from here on.

I agree. I will say he won't be exposed. I still think he is a very very good fighter. The only reason I said exposed earlier, is well, Mayweather will figure him out and make him look a lot worse than anybody else out there. Not saying this will derail his career or anything. He will still be a force in the boxing world for quite some time I believe.

I am not sure how many others out there right now would straight beat him. I am a fan of watching Alvarez fight and I think this will be a really big hype machine. The mediocre boxing fan will be able to get hyped for this match, plus all the people who root for Mayweather to lose will buy in to Alvarez and the hype machine should be in full throttle

Agree. I think this is the biggest boxing PPV since Floyd vs Oscar. I think it hits over 2 million PPV buys.

It's definitely possible that Mayweather will "expose" Canelo, but it's not a guarantee, as some of you are suggesting. At this point, I would never bet against Mayweather, regardless of who he's fighting. But some of you don't even seem to be giving Canelo a chance.

He has a chance. A slim chance maybe, but a chance nonetheless. I'm still waiting for the fight when Canelo's vicious left hook to the body (a punch he didn't use enough vs. Trout) puts his opponent's liver into a coma. Short of that, those punches can take away a lot of power from a guy and change the momentum of a fight. Against Mayweather?. . . Doubtful. But possible.

ETA: One thing I think we can all agree on: This will be great entertainment!

Canelo won't land anything. That's the whole point. The one who isn't gonna be happy is Canelo when his faced his rocked with counters all night.

Floyd is far superior in hand speed and footwork and he's going to take Canelo out of his rhythm just like every other opponent he's faced. Nearly all of these offensive fighters find out within two rounds that they can't pull the trigger against Floyd like they want.

Remember this: Floyd has fought every kind of fighter there is. Canelo hasn't. He has no idea what kind of speed, athleticism and ring generalship he's gonna have to deal with on September 14. If he thought Austin Trout gave him problems then he hasn't seen anything yet. He'll get taught a lesson that night.

Alvarez only landed 14% of his jabs against Trout. He relied on power shots, which he landed at 43%. I can promise you won thing, he isn't landing 40% of his power shots against Mayweather. That number will be well below 30% and if he couldn't land his jab against Trout, then he's definitely not landing it against Mayweather. Bottom line, Canelo is in trouble. If the jab isn't working and the power shots aren't working.....he's gonna have a night like Guerrero just had.

No doubt about that. I think it'll be a better fight too.
