Matt Ryan and the "Joe Flacco" contract.

Per Carlos Medina who studies salary caps like no other, if Matty Ice were given the exact same deal tomorrow, the Falcons would free up 5.1 million this season, 15 million in 2014, and 51 million in 2015. And that's why Arthur pays Thomas the way he does. Rise Up!

Why would they do that? Because he finally won 1 playoff game? Flacco won a superbowl.

How horrdendous is his current contract that 120 million is a bargain?

This is why people outside of Saints fans hate Saints fans.

Yeah, their bias blinds them and makes them look like the most ignorant fans in the game
ETA I love what TD has done...I heard this on 680 too today

So convince me...what has Matt Ryan done to earn a 120 million dollar contract with 50-60 million in guaranteed money. How does it make long term sense to pay say 55 million dollars to free up 5.1 million this season. Sure, you gain the ability to fill a hole this season but you don't sign your QB to a record contract to accomplish that. Guys with those contracts: Brady, Manning, Brees, Rodgers, Flacco have those mega deals. They all have one major thing in common.

It doesn't even matter to you that Ryan had nothing to do with why we lost to the 49ers. I go through the same argument for Aaron Murray. It's endless and it won't end unless they get the ring.

That being said, give me Ryan over Flacco any day.

That's today's market.
Ryan is a better QB than Flacco, and that's what Flacco got.
The last sentence in your post is retarded.

But yea Ryan deserves a 100+ million dollar contract

i dont understand your post. what am i doing wrong?

So you're telling me that those QB's superbowl wins and proven ability to win in the postseason didn't factor into their big contracts?

I'm a Saints fan but I guess I'm not hardcore enough to deny Ryan like everyone else. It wasn't Ryan's fault they lost to the Niners. The whole "can't win in playoffs" thing is pretty dumb. Matt Ryan is better than Joe Flacco, rather easily imo.

What?

I'm telling you that "wins" and "rings" are team metrics.
To wit: the Ryan was not to blame for the Falcons' NFC CG loss this year.

What?
Yeah i dont see any way that would be true.
And even if it was, why would Thomas get credit for it? Its based off a contract he was not involved with

So a SB mvp, a SB title, and 10 playoff wins < 1 playoff win?

Finally a Saint fan with good sense
If you can't see that Ryan is a far more efficient QB than Flacco then I don't know what to tell you.

It has nothing to do with convincing you that Matt Ryan deserves a Joe Flacco contract. The market will decide that. What this thread is about, is that even if the Falcons do give him that same exact contract, they aren't going to be hamstrung like the Ravens, Saints and Packers are because of having a competent GM. Instead of restructuring 15 key players every season until you eventually cut them...cough cough cough...the Falcons will be able to resign key cogs and bring in new players that the team needs...unlike certain teams after this season...cough cough cough.
