What do they do with it? Use it in a FA? Use it to extend Graham? Carry it over til next year (is that possible?)
I don't know which draft picks this includes having signed or not. This seems like a pretty large amount of space for how close we've been to it.

All of our draft picks have been signed. I bet we use the cap room to extend Graham's contract.

Maybe they are trying to do the Graham contract, or, trade for a player? :bumbumbah: I was reading on SR and this guy claimed to have heard Loomis say (at the golf event) something about a huge trade, but that's all he heard.

They could have saved even more by simply cutting him.

He sucks.

Will Smith, Roman Harper, and Jon Vilma...these were my 2014 cut candidates...depending on Harpers new deal and its long term effects maybe losing Jenkins would be the move that equals that one out...but now we also have to consider Greer a possible cap casualty unless he has a restructure on the horizon by next season.

again...im not saying i want to cut greer our best corner for IDK how long but his cap and age would be something to look at if Robinson finally breaks through or if white steps up or if they think they can draft another corner, or sign another lewis type player, or simply resign him to a lesser hit.

I feel like we got more money now than we did before we signed our first free agent

If I understand it correctly, Harper has little to no guaranteed money after this year. So he basically took a pay cut this year (a year was add to his contract, but again not guaranteed), and he'll have to perform well for the Saints to let him play out his contract.

Two things that allow this to happen 1) drafting Vaccaro and 2) the absolute graveyard that is free agency. No player wants to be a free agent right now.

This leaves me in awe of Mickey. We are are 18M over the cap before free agency. After we sign a few free agents and draft picks we are 5.1 below...

....good point....i think we can all agree that harper was not worth...7-8 mill a year....well depending on his new deal...i think we can all agree for 3-5 mill tops...its not a bad price for one of the best in the box SS in the NFL...a great blitzer and solid open field tackler...his coverage against RB's and TE's that arent elite is also pretty solid as well.

You mean his coverage against bad rb's and te's is pretty solid right? If you know the name of the guy, chances are he is going to burn Harper. Vernon Davis is not elite, you have to argue him into the top 10 with ceiling / upside talk. Which is also pretty hilarious because the dudes been in the league so long and everyone is still pointing to his upside.

Definitely doesn't belong in a pro's statement. He's a decent tackler but his biggest strength is blitzing and always being in the right place to impede a runner even though he misses a lot of tackles on rb's in the box

Uh huh, what a substantial defense;

Graham-gronk-hernandez-Gonzales-witten isthe consensus top 5. Then it is a complete crap shoot on every te rankings so far for next season. Pitta, Daniels, cook, Davis; take your pick. You'll see him as low as 6 and as high as 11.

This is not elite. I've seen him play more teams then the saints unlike you I'm guessing. And I go else where from st to get news. Davis is hated on a lot by national media. Just because you only watch him play against the joke coverage safety Harper doesn't mean he is elite.

You could argue elite means top 3 or top 5 but to go any deeper dilutes the word.

to Loomis.

Raiders are the only team still over the cap.

Posted this in the other thread but with some questions asked here it looked like a cross post was in order.

Looks like someone got the numbers on him. Not too bad for either party:

LINK He got an additional $970,000 signing bonus in each of the 3 remaining years(for a $2.91 total new signing bonus). His base salary this year is now only $840,000(vet minimum; originally $5.25 mil) and his cap hit is $3.66 mil(originally $7.1 mil).

His cap hit next year dropped from $7.9 mil to $5.87 mil. His dead money number is pretty high($3.69 mil) so we'd now only cut him if he completely flamed out or we were desperate for cap space(he'd save only $2.18 mil; cutting Jenkins this year would save $2.51 mil in comparison).

2015 his cap hit actually drops down to $4.47 mil and cutting him would save $3.5 mil(only $970,000 in dead money). This will likely be the year to watch as his cap hit isn't that high but we will likely be extremely strapped for cap. Could go either way.
