Is anyone on the board into hydroponics (growing plants in a controlled water based solution, rather than dirt)

I'm tired of fighting weeds in my garden and I'm looking for a low cost, *weed free*, relatively low effort way of growing a garden.

Seems interesting enough to try it...anyone have any experience/suggestions?

Its very easy to kill your plants when usinn hydroponics. theres a learning curve to it.
if anything goes wrong its hard to correct cause the roots are exsposed. if an emmiter(sp) clogs the plant dies within a few hrs.

make sure and do a lot of research.

This is what I do
in the fall once your garden is done put a layer of newspaper down and cover with a 6"
layer of mulch it will sterilize any weed seeds.
till it in next spring and there will be no weeds for a couple months.

I use mulch on my garden to smother out the weeds
aand help hold moisture in. I mulch the whole garden. between the rows and all.
It adds organic matter to the soil when it decays which is always a benefit

hydro is a full time job.
I know a few people that spent close to 10000$
to get into hydro, they gave up pretty quickly...

I looked into getting the aerogarden and removing the LED light that comes with it and replacing it with a better light source

Where are you looking for designs or systems?

I want to build my own, but I'd like to look around at various systems to get ideas.

I thought of the exact same thing. I used to be a huge 311 fan.
