I think it's going to take a few years to get the D that we want. I wouldn't expect a top 10 defense to magically appear with the same players of last year. I'd be happy with a top 18 D tho.

We dont need a top ten defense.

A top 15 defense makes us one of the top 2 teams in the NFC with a first round bye in the playoffs guaranteed.

I'm so sick of hearing this. Do you not watch the draft, FA, and coaching changes? The defensive lineup/roster will resemble nothing of last year's team. For fricks sake, the DC and entire scheme has changed as well as personnel/players.

Haslett and Williams both had the most successful defenses in their first year. Game planning is a big part of the NFL today and it may take teams a while to figure out what to do with a 285 pound outside linebacker.

As someone posted, we dont need a top 10 D. With the offense we have, we just need a defense that is in the middle of the pack and gets turnovers. Thats all. Not many teams can score with us. If our D just is improved off last year and is in the top 20 in D, I would be happy.

He should feel good, he hasn't had an offense of this caliber to cover for him if his defense makes mistakes.....

In a very similar situation Wade Phillips came in to the Texans and took them from 31st to 3rd over all D with the same players for the most part.

As mentioned above I'd be happy with just getting to middle of the pack.

2009 wasn't a drastic overhaul, Williams just changed the culture, added Sharper, and we got turnovers. If out D is just mediocre, playoffs for sure

It's going to be hard for the Saints to have a Top 10 defense for the simple fact that the defense will end up giving up a lot of yards in garbage time when the Saints are up by 35 points.
