I've read that if you cut off the wings you can cook it up and it tastes like scallops. Always get a few when fishing live bait on the bottom but have never kept one to eat. Anybody do this?

Stingray sandwich is hard to beat.

If they're fresh.

Usually I just cut the line. How do you land one?

With a net if I'm by myself. If I have a partner, I Hackberry flop the stingray into the rear of the boat for him to deal with.

I have heard some people that have been hit by sting rays ask to have their foot/hand amputated from the pain...no sting rays near me

Scate wings taste like scallops

you can filet a stingray (a big one) but the meat is not all the way to the edges of the wing. There is a raised part that you can see and that is the edible meat. It is on the top and bottom and you can get four filets. It is decent meat, but it is a pain in the arse to get.

yeah, but its easier if you have a real sharp filet knife. I would reccomend getting a cheap one from academy, the ones that are usually in a bucket at the gun/reel counter for a buck or two, then throwing it away when it dulls. The blade is razor sharp for a little while and flexible.
