I believe that Tim Cook wanted to testify. Apple would love for the tax code to be simplified and their not to be a 35% tax on repatriated earnings. Apple can look forward to the massive piles of money that they are going to have stuck over seas and hopes for some kind of tax reform.

We can all hope I guess

I think that the fact that the US government is suing Apple, this is more like a legal hearing or deposition. Someone correct me if that's not the case.

i don't think anybody is being sued, no laws have been broken.

they basically are looking to the private sector to figure out why the are incompetent.

I could have sworn the US government filed suit against Apple. I could definitely be wrong.

If that's not the case, I don't know how Congress is compelling apple execs to testify.

no they are saying that apple has broke no laws, but they want more money. which in return makes less money for the shareholders which in return spend less in our economy, or we can give the gov more moeny and they can waste it away on bs.

Congress can call anyone to testify before it regardless if any laws have been broken.

Could Cook have told them to go DIAF or does a congressional commitee have subpoena power or something like it?

ETA: nvm, according to google they seem to have it.

Repatriation Tax is the stupidest tax there is. It generates less than .2% of all tax revenues, that's 1/5 of 1%, yet it keeps Hundreds of Billions of dollars out of the US economy. IT'S frickING STUPID.

I agree with him in principle. I also agree with the tax reform sentiment.

Sen. Levin is pissed off because Apple is beating the system that Levin is part of and is taking advantage of everything afforded them under the current tax code. Levin is also pissed because Apple is taking away his tax crack-cocaine and raises the possibility that he (Levin) has to get his head out his arse and stop giving tax money (Apple's included) to undeserving entitlement recipients in order to get Sen. Levin's Democratic buddies re-elected. Apple is giving the United States tax code and it's entitlement programs a big "frick You". Apple produces a great product and holds itself accountable to its stock holders. Get it, Sen. Levin??

In essence, Levin is asking Apple to stop being so smart, ambitious and innovative and start being dumb and arrogant like us.
