that's like saying it's ok for everyone to use performance enhancing drugs because everyone can do it.

or it's ok for everyone to double dribble in basketball because everyone has the ability to. basketball should have stopped players from carrying the ball so much when it had the chance, but they didn't and look how it's played now. (actually very entertaining, but carrying and walking is part of the game and it shouldn't be)

this is about integrity, tradition, and maintaining control of the game. (and THE MAN HOLDING US DOWN)

Correct and that also makes the usga decision not to touch the ball or driver more confusing. The "new" equipment helps better and stronger players A LOT more than everybody else. It's not even close and that's not fair IMHO

the ball

i do agree with this. i can do things with a pro-v that an average/beginner player can't.
however i can also do things to a pinnacle an average/beginner player can't. so how do you regulate that?

i have no idea how the ball could be adjusted. what is yall's opinion on that?

i think every ball should play like a bridgestone E6, very average all around.

The ball probably needs to be dialed back a bit if you want to keep from having to build 7500 yard golf courses and keep from ruining older layouts

I'm not sure but I do know that the harder you swing the farther the ball goes % wise and that is not fair.

ETA - a guy that swings a driver at 115 mph may see a 25% increase in distance with the new equipment....

A guy that swings a driver at 90 mph may only see a 2% increase in distance with new equipment.

The different ball issue for golf is unique. It's almost incomparable to any other sport. If balls had spec standards that were identical, and the only difference was brand, then pros would be equally as pissed as the weekend hacker.

wait, what?

higher swing speeds will always hit the ball further...its physics man!

I'm still not grasping why a swing speed argument creates unfairness....a guy with a higher speed at impact will always gain an advantage proportionately or not....

the newer equipment standards help everyone hit it further....seems pretty fair to me

that is NOT fair either...everyone should swing the exact same....in the interest of tradition and respect for James Braid, Francis Ouimet etc.

I agree with what threeputt is saying, but my biggest reason for wanting the balls regulated is because a player can generate spin out of the rough on the newer balls where in the past hitting from the rough was a bigger penalty..this is due to both the balls and the grooves (which also were recently regulated)

We should petition the White House.

Of course, but the new equipment has increases his advantage .. It has allowed him to hit the ball 25 or 30% farther while the new equipment has only allowed others to hit it say 5% farther. It has widened the gap and that's not fair. You are giving an advantage to one set of players that you are not giving to others.

Easy, you make a tour ball. One single ball that all the players play made to the specifications that the PGA Tour wants.

ETA: Nicklaus has been wanting this to be done for years now.

You lost me here. All men are not created equal. Should we all have the same DNA too?

Whats hilarious is that they lengthen courses to fight back against the long hitters yet all you did was give them a larger advantage over the shorter ones. Constantly lengthening courses is retarded.

If something changes, and all of a sudden these courses are 1,000 yards too long, I propose building mini titty bars in between some of these tee boxes/greens.

Not bars for women with little boobs, rather little bars for women with regular sized boobs. Not too big, or threeputt will claim they have an unfair advantage.
