NPR did a really interesting segment on TV show abandonment.

LINK

I've abondoned several shows. Shows that I watched regularly and really liked and at some point the show (A)just wasn't doing it for me or (B) became too retarded and no longer entertaining.

CSI-A
CSI New York-A
CSI Miami-B
Grey's Anatomy-B
Desperate Housewives-B
Scrubs-B
Glee-B

What shows have you abondoned and why?

Is there a show where you have just decided to stick it out no matter how bad it gets?

the all timers for me and my wife were Grey's Anatomy and ER

we watched ER religiously then after dr Green died it got too stupid. Grey's Anatomy ran its course for me with the icicle in the chest of the asian chick

You have the taste of a single, 30-something woman

To answer the OP, I have extremely limited patience with shows. Life is too short to watch a show just because you feel obligated to finish.

Perfect example. Same reason we stopped.

We also abandoned Frasier but I can't remember exactly why.

Bones.

I think it's because it never really changed and I was tired of the hoopla between Bones and Booth. I now know they are together but I watched the first 4 plus seasons and just stopped.

Law and Order: SVU has become way too over the top to take seriously anymore.

The last couple of seasons have some great ones, but they aren't as good as previous years.

We abandon Frasier every so often and then after a few months we start to watch again.

That show seemed to be pushing some sort of political agenda every episode. I also stopped watching the Simpsons about 5 years ago. I actually stopped watching all fox animated shows when every network started putting all their best dramas on Sunday night.

You mean a show where 4 detectives work on one case at any one time and manage to get a clearance rate of around 99% had become too over the top?

I abandoned Modern Family after the first season. Castle after like 4 seasons. The Office somewhere around 5 or 6 maybe, I don't remember. I abandoned Sons of Anarchy during season 2, but went back to it this past season. Nip/Tuck shortly after the Carver storyline finished. Wilfred after season 1, though I don't know why. 30 Rock after season 3, but went back to it for the last season.

I got a lot that I abandoned, some I would actually like to go back and finish.

Lost

I watched half of the first season, and for some reason never finished it. I liked the little bit that I saw, will have to go back when I have more time.

I abandoned Heroes and Nip Tuck. I've stuck it out with Dexter and Californication. I have a hard time abandoning shows that aren't procedurals unless they start sucking really hard.

It became so ridiculous I was having trouble laughing at it

For now, The Following. The season long thread is just too good

Recent shows I am more likely to abandon because of the short shelf life everything seems to have. I hate watching and getting into a show only to see it canceled four episodes in. If it sticks, I can always go back and catch up. I plan to do this with Parks and Rec.

My wife and I used to stay glued to the TV for Greys Anatomy. I havent watched a single episode since the shooter shot up the hospital, and my wife was ten weeks worth of episodes on the DVR she hasn't touched. We watched the first season of Glee, then part of the second season, then I havent watched since.

I abandoned Heroes four episodes into the second season.

Celebrity Apprentice, haven't watched in years. I did not watch a single episode of American Idol this season. I really didn't watch much of last season either.

My wife watched Desperate Housewives, then gave it up when we started HBO sunday night programming.

Yea. I abandoned house when the characters seemed to change weekly.

I'm sticking it out with Revolution and True Blood. I really want the red head to get naked.

I wish they would have given The River and Alcatraz a longer leash.

Man, ER. it's amazing to go back and watch the first season now. It's unrecognizable from the show it would become. I bailed the exact second the helicopter finally got the evil doctor. That was ludicrous.

I tend to not watch many shows religiously, and I'm hit and miss on sitcoms. I hadn't watched an episode of the Office in over a year, though it wasn't a conscious decision to stop watching it. And I did enjoy the final episode. I tend to drift away from shows. I found that I stopped watching Community halfway through this season.
