Went down to the island Friday to try the specks. The surf was too rough for the boat so i headed to the backside of the island. Didn't do too bad. The specks were 14-21". Fished with live croakers on the bottom. Anyone else fish Grand Isle this weekend?

The backside of the main island. Find a spot out of the wind and fish when the tide is moving.

Fished Saturday morning out of my kayak on the backside of the island (LDWF building)

Got out there about 5:30 and there was bait everywhere . . . threw topwater and was rewarded with a nice mess of trout, all decent size. Bite slowed down considerably by around 7, so if you go- go early.

Fished back-side of Elmers' Saturday morning with son. Tide was not moving very much but did work thru the dinks on live shrimp. Kept 7 reds (16-18) and 7 trout (14-23). All trout females and the eggs were not quite mature. Also the immature mangrove snapper were out in force.

I also caught a few small mangroves Friday. My mom and step-dad also fished the north side of the island saturday and sunday and caught about 25-35 both days i believe, mostly smaller trout.

We tried free-lining shrimp and carolina rigged shrimp. Went to drop-shot with live shrimp and caught most.

Took boat to GI for first trip. Had a good trip and caught a few at Queen Bess Saturday afternoon on live shrimp. Fought wind Sunday am and ended up behind Grand Terre. Found some trout again on live shrimp. Ended up with a nice box of trout in about 3 hrs. All trout on queen Bess were very nice but fought the porpoise - they took several off the hook. Boat next to us same thing. Larger trout sat evening but more Sunday am. All in all - awesome trip!

Boat did well and ready to head out again!
