Is optimism for 2013 football = delusional homerism?

The losses on defense plus the complete breakdown of the defense in the last 4 games should be cause for concern. But then I think about all the freshmen that had playing time and the seniors/juniors who basically checked out and mailed it in after the Bama loss. And I can't decide where we really stand. I think we'll be better but most of us are eternal optimists when it comes to LSU football.

So is the optimism warranted or are we being a bunch of homers by expecting a good season? It's hard to make that determination right now.

If we didn't have Cameron coming in, I think it would be delusional homerism. Because of him, I think expecting 10 wins is reasonable. 8 if Les doesn't let him run the offense

I think 2-3 losses is realistic. A 1 loss season is possible but unlikely with all of the losses on defense.

I'd be disappointed. Too much talent to lose three.

No matter how the previous season ends I get optimistic. I think every LSU team since 2003 has been capable of 11-13 wins (Counting post season). Anything less is disappointing.

I'd like to think that the winner of the sec west will have 2 loses this season, giving us a legit chance at getting to atlanta. Then, I take another look at bama's schedule and reality sets in.

our schedule is the most difficult in 20 years.

If Bama loses two, I'd be shocked. their schedule is as almost as easy as UGA's was last year.

The talent in the west is pretty impressive. 9 wins is very good, 10 is great, anything else is a national champ.

With A&M in the West, every year will be tougher from here on out. You also have the possibility of an Auburn resurrection, or Arkansas actually becoming legit.

Ole Miss and Miss. St. have played LSU tough at times as well.

My first thought is that with this schedule we will lose a couple games. Although I think it's wrong to say the defense collapsed last year bc the defense played well against clemsons offense.

But then 2011 gives me hope. That schedule was just as tough and I expected 3-4 losses then too.

I do also. But it has nothing to do with the talent and coaching we have now. 9-3 will be disappointing.

9-3 probably , but won't be that happy with that. just as long as Bama doesn't win it again (off subject, yeah i know....)

there are a number of reasons to be optimistic.

1) lots of skill talent.

2) what should be a very solid oline.

3) expected improvement from Mett.

4) culture change on offense led by Cam.

5) good depth at lb.

6) John freakn' Chavis.

there are also areas of concern.

1) dline depth.

2) young corners.

3) kicking game.

4) team leaders.

5) Jeremy freakn' Hill.

I expect us to be good to very good and if Mett blossoms we will have the points and ability to control the rock that should mitigate any perceived falloff on denfense.

getting better.
