When the PC professors and administrators wanted to drop the Rebels name to Black Bears, they were the only ones for it. Everyone else was against it, all players, alumni, fans, residents, etc. The Rebel name was not to be dropped 100%. Could we drop Tigers for Cats or Jaguars? No, could never do it 100%. They try to low-key it without media publicity. Smart move. Geaux Tigers. I live 50 miles from Ole Miss, they're all around me, no Tigers hardly.

I thought they were still the Rebela but couldn't use the old southern dude. So they replaced the guy not "rebels". I could be wrong.

That's how I understand it as well.
