Darla, don't know if you watched the show, but it didn't appear Dee Dee was particularly worried about how she looked.

The RB po-boy there is #1 in the city in my book. Have enjoyed the pizza and fried seafood also. Would always steer anyone who was thinking of Deanies in bucktown to go to R&O's.

My only guess is that the kids in the family like these restaurant reality shows and talked the elders into getting the show to come film them acting like dumbasses. They maybe thought it would be fun to be on tv or something.

Btw, I went to New Orleans Food and Spirits next door to R&O's yesterday and the place was jam packed with 15 or so people waiting for tables at lunch. Maybe they are taking business away or something.

I had a feeling that the disgusting fat chick was right when she said that her mother wouldn't let that ignorant restaurant owner/uncle fire her.

Even if it was staged, and I'm guessing it probably was, how could you eat there knowing that the ugly fat slob might get her nastiness on your food?

Spoilers

The owner of R&Os went on Mystery Diners because he thought his relatives were chasing off non family employees. His morbidly obese neice treated a new hire like shite, telling her that she looked like a stripper and accusing her of sleeping with the owner. The show sent a fake customer in there to mess with the neice to see how she would react. When the fake customer told the neice that he didn't want mayo on his poboy, she went into the kitch and rubbed her fat, sweaty boobs on his new poboy.

The whole thing seemed rather staged, especially when the owner confronted his neice. Even if it was staged, it seemed pretty stupid to put your business on this show. Its not like R&Os isn't a well known place. I just don't see why a business owner would allow such bad press to be aired.

Looks like the word is getting out about the Mystery Diners episode:

quote:

But not after seeing recent Mystery Diners episode where a bitchy morbidly obese waitress was fired--then rehired!--after (among many other things--including body slamming a new staffer and being rude to guests) she was filmed laughing manically as she rubbed her chest with a sandwich bun to get even with a customer she didn't like.

quote:

After watching Mystery Diners, this is one place that has been removed from my list of restaurants to visit in New Orleans.

Dee Dee allowed her toxic behavior to manifest itself as unsafe food handling.

Physically assaulting a new employee, rubbing a customer's sandwich bread on her breast and that was what they were able to catch on video. She should not have been allowed to come back.

Nepotism is going to be the downfall of this restaurant.

quote:

After viewing the May 2013 episode of Mystery Diners I cannot imagine why ANYONE would want to go there to eat. There is a plethora of great family run Poboy / seafood shops in The New Orleans metro area, so pick one with a better reputation and better food to spend your hard earned money with. Examples...Parkway Bakery, Parisols, Casamento's etc.

why would an owner of a business stage that horrible act? to sabotage his own business? that was not good PR!

Such a shame as it is by far my favorite RB poboy. Hopefully my wife will forget we taped it and not watch it.

As far as New Orleans Food and Spirits next door, go for lunch on Thursday and get there when they open. The white beans and rabbit special on Thursday is incredible, but it you get there late they run out

I watched (actually fell asleep before it was over), but saw enough.

Even though Dee Dee might not have seemed worried, her attitude could change after fall-out from the airing of the episode. She's gonna get a lot of hate.

I'm so perplexed as to why R&O's or any successful restaurant would do one of these shows, staged or not. I think a lot is staged, but it's staged to look real and it leaves a question in the viewers mind as to whether any of it is true, at the very least. I have a question in my mind.

Most of the time when I'm waited on there, I don't get that loving feeling. Last time, though, the waitress was fine. I think it was the one in training to be a manager.

Dee Dee needed her mouth washed out with soap and her body washed WITH soap. Who would agree to look that way on national TV if it's staged unless the person is a 100% idiot and what businessman would think this was a good idea? I keep asking myself "why?" they would do it. There will be backlash. It will wear off, but then the show will be replayed every year, at least, before the start of the new season and it starts all over again.

For anyone who missed it, the episode is called All in the Family and it airs again:

Okay, last night, Urban Spoon had a ton of posts blasting the restaurant and they're gone now unless there's more than one listing on there.

On Yelp, there are still posts and one girl says Dee Dee is an actress. Interesting. Here's the link she gave. Sure looks like Dee Dee to me. Anyone know Dee Dee from the restaurant?

Weird. Maybe they believe that all publicity is good publicity? They are definitely being talked about.

GG, I would have to say that I've never, ever seen her there before.

But there is simply no explanation for how they could be stupid enough to allow themselves to be portrayed like this.

No kidding. I just don't get it.

I looked at the Mystery Diner site where it talks about applying to be on the show. It doesn't say much other than that you need to have a big personlity. He did so I guess he passed. Maybe no one who worked there had a big enough personality so they brought in the actress. I'd love to read the contracts for these shows. I would assume the restaurant is sworn to secrecy, but why would they say they took her back after 4 months? That only hurts the restaurant even more, but it got folks blood pressure up and that's drama!

ETA: Last night on Urban Spoon, a few people posted that they called the restaurant to see if Dee Dee was still there and were told she was not. I bet the R&O folks would like to be able to speak out on this.
