Collins will be the starter ahead of White. But, considering we use an extra DB in almost all of our D, i expect White to play a lot. The nickel will either be Mills or White, and the other will be the CB opposite of Collins. So I expect White to see the field alot. But, Collins is the starter. Chief has been grooming him for this season and hes the type of CB we always have on the field. Tall, rangy, and physical. I expect Collins to have a breakout year and could possibly go pro after this season.

Forgot about Dwayne Thomas. He looks like our third best corner. He showed really good technique and positioning in the Spring Game.

I expect White to play. But he's gonna have to earn it. He's not gonna walk in and start right away.

Thank you. My reasoning for transitioning Barrow to MLB is simply his ability and leadership. He is our most seasoned LB. As far as him being as good as Minter at MLB (and Minter was outstanding), I have yet to find out. I do hope Barrow assumes the position and performs as well as I think he will. Welter, however very well could be the starter at MLB.

As far as White as the other CB starter, it was a bold prediction. Collins was good last year, but White was arguably the best recruit to come out of the state last year, and I think he will show that in fall camp. Not saying Collins isn't good by any stretch of the imagination, but I think White will raise some eyebrows.

You are correct, the position on D we have the most depth at is OLB.

I definitely would not say these new upperclassmen are leftovers. These guys are the new stars. Look for Rasco, La'El Collins, Quantavious Leslie, Barrow, and Tahj Jones to shine at their new starting positions.

I agree 100% with that. And i didnt say he would be starting, I think he will be the #3 CB and play during nickel and dime packages. And i think he will earn it. Kids a special talent.

DT is a great looking CB for the team. I can see him playing legit minutes too. I see him being groomed to be the future starter along with White when Mills and Collins move along. And I think Thomas is an exceptional cover CB, I just think Whites playmaking ability and what he does with the ball in his hands will move him ahead of Thomas. But, we will see. Its such a luxury of having so many quality starters and backups, and incoming freshman that everyone is pumped up about.

I really appreciate the feedback. In my depth chart, I tried to make some bold predictions. White as the other starter was probably the most bold and the biggest stretch, I admit. My intention was exactly what this thread has turned into, a discussion about the depth chart and an opportunity to receive feedback.

Why I decided to leave off Thomas in the depth chart, I have no idea. That was my mistake and I will fix that. He will get an opportunity to show how good he is just like everyone else.

To reply to another user's comment about White not even being on campus yet, I think that doesn't have much to do with it. Mills as a true freshman was able to start day one after he was given a chance to prove himself in fall camp. I think White will do the same.

That's a great question. Considering the way Coach Miles likes to experiment with his return men, it's going to be tough to name a starter. By I'll edit the post.

Probably M. Johnson in front of Bain and Gilmore.

Allen is the winner here.

Your worst moment in an otherwise good post. I'm not saying this is impossible, just that, if it happens, we've got a future NFL HoFer!

Solid job on the LBs and safeties. Good job on offense, too, except you're thinking with your heart instead of your head for the WRs.

not bad, but i find it hard to believe white will supplant either jalen in the first series of the tcu game.

The guy will play a lot, but mills is the only true frosh to start from day 1 in the secondary.

Also think welter starts at mike, whether he stays the starter, well we have to see.

I think Allen takes it from hunter or i guess hunter doesnt take it from allen.

Also think hawkins will be the first tackle off the bench, regardless of which side.

Also still think williford would start at center if porter couldnt go.

oh and for god sakes, we arent starting a true frosh at qb. RIVERS will be in if met goes down early.

It was pretty good, and I get why you had some bold predictions.

I just think Collins is going to have a breakout year and may be gone after this season. I think his ceiling is that high. White will be a stud. No doubt about it. But dont think he will be ready to be a true CB starter from day 1. He will def be getting a lot of PT though. Thomas looks to def be on the right path as well.

Nobody besides me has said anything about Beckwith. I think everyone forgot about him for some reason. Kid will be a big time player for us in the future.

As for return men, I think we will see a lot of diff bodies back there. OBJ, White, Brazil, Eugene just to name a few. I think all will get opportunities back there. I know OBJ and Eugene were returning kicks during spring and OBJ as punt returner. Excited to see what White and Brazil can both do back there.

It's the secondary on D that is again our biggest problem area, imo.

Holy smokes! I just re-read your post and noticed this one.

This could be the finest secondary in the country. Four NFL quality starters! Mills will go in the first two rounds, but probably round one. Collins will be gone by the fifth round. And the safeties will both be drafted. You've been spoiled by TM7, PP7, and Mo.

This. Im more worried about the DL than any other position on the team.

Mills will most likely be a 1st rounder. Collins will be a 3rd at the latest. If he has the type of year I think he is capable of having, he could very well be gone after this season and could possibly be a 1st or 2nd guy. Martin, IMO, will be a stud. Yes, hes replacing a heck of a football player in Reid. But Martin is an absolute freak. He was on LSU basketball team his freshman year for crying out loud. Legit size, speed, and a 40+ inch vert. Not to mention he loves contact. And I think Loston tears it up this year if he stays healthy. During the back end of the season, he was 1 of the best players we had on the field. And all of the starers all have legit expereince. Loston, Mills, and Collins were all starters. Martin has seen his fair share of PT. So have the guys behind them. Eugene played a bunch last year and looked good. Thompson was a ST all star and was great during the spring.

And not to mention the young guys we have coming in. Thomas and Holmes both had a great spring and spring game. White was a highly touted DB recruit and 1 of the top CBs in the nation, and Robinson has that 6'3 frame we love here and has legit low 4.4 speed. Add some weight to him and he will be a player.

Im not worried about our DBs, and rarely have ever been. They are very talented, experienced, and we have a lot of depth back there. The 2 positions that the state of Louisiana always has is DBs and DL. And im confident our DL will be fine. Its just the lack of experience behind Ego and Freak that has me worried.

you completely left Dillon Gordon off the depth chart at TE. He may very well end up being the starting TE. He is the most complete package of size, speed, strength and hands at TE. He is a good athletic reciever and good blocker. It's going to be a 3 way battle between Dickson (best pure reciever and route runner), Stokes (the staff obviously must like what they see in him to offer him out of JUCO), and Gordon. Smith needs a redshirt year.

I don't see anyone doing what honey badger did in 2 years maybe ever again. White will be a beast though.

False. Smith is the best pass catching TE we have ever had. I dont really consider him a TE. Hes like a Jimmy Graham TE. TE size, but is just a bigger WR. Probably wont be a big time blocker, but I would line him up all over the place.

Gordon very well may end up being the best and most complete TE we have at the moment, but Smith is hands down the best pass catcher and route runner we have at TE, and he hasnt even stepped on campus yet. He was 1 of the best WR in the nation in high school, not just a TE. At the All American Game they said he by far had the best hands out there, and there was some big time WRs out there.

The only reason we would have him redshirt would be so he can learn how to be a better blocker. But, IMO, he shouldnt really be asked to block all that much. Thats not what he brings to the table. Graham isnt a blocker. Hes a WR. Smith should be out there as a WR that can line up all over the place and pick the mismatches. Id split him out, use him in the slot, out of the backfield, and as a TE in passing situations. Hes a legit 6'5 240 that can go up and get the ball. Dickson doesnt bring the size , athleticism, or pass catching ability that Smith brings to the table. He should not redshirt. If anything, he will be a ST all star with his size and speed. And should be a huge red zone target IMO. Smith could be 1 of the earlier freshman to get PT on the team. Especially considering how much Cameron likes to use the TE.

Tredavious White is a stud, and will be a very good LSU CB.. But freaking Patrick Peterson didnt evern start til later on in his freshmen season.

Jalen Collins is a very good player in his own right, as is Dwayne Thomas.

Dwayne Thomas and Tre-davious White will be an interesting battle for the nickle spot

IMO outside of Landry and OBJ wr is wide open. Also I think Barrow moves inside and Kwon takes his spot. Assuming Kwon is back to his pre injury self he's to good to keep off the field. Dude has some skills.
